June 21, 201115 yr Read "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis this weekend. Started "Firehouse" by David Halberstam today; a quick read that I'll probably finish tonight.
June 21, 201115 yr Love that book! :thumb: Yep. It's an excellent book. Peter Kreeft also wrote one called "The Snakebite Letters" as an homage to Lewiss book - it focuses specifically on American culture.

June 21, 201115 yr I forgot! I watched Beer for My Horses Sunday as well. I thought it was pretty funny! Or, maybe I just had such low expectations that anything better than atrocious was good. :lol:

June 22, 201115 yr ^ Evidently Time-Life had a monthly book club back in the early-mid 60s called the Time Reading Program where they reprinted something like 100 novels. They were in paperback form. I picked up a bunch of these in pristine condition at a yard sale the other day for 50 cents apiece; that's where I got The Screwtape Letters and All The King's Men. Probably should have made an offer on all of them that the lady had; I didn't know what they were at the time and she may very well have had all of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Reading_Program
June 25, 201115 yr EXCELLENT book! Finished All The King's Men this evening. A bit light on dialogue, but all in all a fascinating read. Footnote: Robert Penn Warren's sister was my wife's French teacher at Mason County High School back in the day.
June 29, 201115 yr I got through books rarely slowly, but I've read more in the past year than I ever have, so I guess that is a plus. Just finished Never Eat Alone: And other secrets to success, one relationship at a time by Keith Ferrazzi. I was given this book about two years ago and just now read it. It was good, not great. But definitely some helpful tips/philosophies on the right way to think about networking. Next up looks like my second David Baldacci novel, First Family. I really enjoyed the first I read by him, Absolute Power, so I think I'll like this as well.
