June 1, 201115 yr Finished the Baroque Cycle 3 or 4 weeks ago. Since then I read one of the John Sanford "Prey" novels, "A Modern Treasury of Great Detectives and Murder Mysteries", and about half of "The Complete Sherlock Holmes". Picked up an odd box of books at a local auction not long ago. Mostly swords and sorcery stuff. Most of the "Shannara" books by Terry Brooks. I read the first one in the series (The Sword of Shannara) but found it to be pretty much a juvenile ripoff of Tolkien's LOTR series, so the rest will probably go to the local library or Goodwill. Also in the box were several of Anne McCaffrey's "Pern" series. So I've read Dragonflight, Dragonquest, Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, Dragondrums, The White Dragon, Moreta, Nerilka's Story, and am about halfway through Dragonsdawn. Finally, there is a 4-volume set of Louis L'Amour books called "The Sacketts" in the box (this box cost me three bucks, so I've gotten my money's worth). I can't recall that I've ever read a western; I'm sure I have at some point in time but I really can't say for certain. I may give the first one a try after I'm finished with the "Dragon" books (a couple more to go). Finished the Dragonriders books. I've read a few murder mysteries/crime fiction novels since then. Currently reading Alafair Burke's first novel, "Judgment Calls". A bit heavy on precedure, but not bad. Picked up "Parting the Ways", a Pulitzer winner on MLK and the American civil rights movement (this will probably be winter reading); along with "The W Effect - Bush's War on Women"; and to prove that I'm fair and balanced, "The Golf Instructor".
June 2, 201115 yr Author Finished Storm of Swords this morning. Read the prologue to A Feast For Crows but I may TRY to wait closer to July 12th to start it.
June 7, 201115 yr Just finished "Storming Heaven" by Denise Giardina. Very good. Just started on "The Lincoln Nobody Knows" by Richard Current. Both of these from an auction lot of books that I picked up over the weekend.
