October 8, 201015 yr And what did you think of the book? To be honest, I was generally bored by it. I understand that it's groundbreaking in that it's a coming-of-age story from a feminine perspective, which was certainly not the norm in the 30's or 40's or whenever it was first published, but I just remember thinking, "Okay, this is bound to get interesting eventually" the whole time I was reading it, and at the end, I was surprised not to have discovered the interesting part. Not knocking those who like the book, I just honestly didn't get much out of it.
October 8, 201015 yr Wonderful book and wonderful man! I've met him and have an autographed copy--quite a humbling experience. Wow, I would love to meet him. I know he does travel from time to time as a speaker, but I've never come across one of his speaking engagements. That's pretty awesome that you got to meet him though.

October 11, 201015 yr "Pioneer Women: Voices from the Kansas Frontier" by Joanna L. Stratton. I started it yesterday and am already halfway through it. Fascinating book! Also rereading 1000 Italian Recipes by Michel Scicolone. Yes...I'm a dork. I read cook books like I read novels. I got hooked in 5th grade when I checked Fannie Farmer out of my grade school library.

It's a vampire story but not anything close to a stereotypical one; pretty much a military experiment gone wrong, but the plot goes a lot deeper than that and I was really fascinated by it. October 26, 201015 yr After putting it off for far too long, I finally picked up the first volume of George R.R. Martin's "Song of Fire and Ice" series. I'm about halfway through and it's excellent. Also working through a book on the Big Bang entitled -- quite cleverly -- The Big Bang.

October 26, 201015 yr Just out of curiosity. Has anyone plowed through Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series? I know he died a couple of years back with the series unfinished - is that still the case? I got through the first 7 or 8 books than gave it up.
October 27, 201015 yr I just finished Freakonomics and I'm currently reading Outliers by Malcom Gladwell. Anyone wanting a different take on things should check Freakonomics out...it's unique, refreshing, and impossible to put down. I just finished Superfreakonomics. It's inferior to the original(which I really enjoyed), but still pretty good. Presently, I'm reading Nicholas and Alexandra, by Robert Massie. I'm up to the onset of World War I, and have about 1/2 left.
