Highlands wins this one because they are taking the rest of the season one game at a time and will not overlook their opponent. Beechwood has a great tradition as well as Highlands but the talent on Highlands team is better than Beechwood's team this year. Please do not take this as a shot at Beechwood this is just what I see with the matchup for this game.

Smarty pants. But you were right. I was sleeping at 9:30 last night. Woke up at 2 with a pounding headache. Probably caused by my concerns about the Beechwood game. The next several weeks concern me actually. Beechwood may be more of a game than people think. The week before X we play Boone. Look past them to X, and we'll be in big trouble. Then we have to play X. We get beat up in that game, regardless of the outcome, and then we have to face a Dixie team that is living up to its potential. Not the way I'd like to see the schedule run, but you play 'em when you can schedule 'em.

 

I never take Beechwood for granted, even when they are having a supposed down year. Beechwood kids and coaches work too hard to overlook. I have too much respect for the Beechwood program to overlook them and I'm sure the Birds coaches do too. My only concern is that neither I nor the Birds coaches play the game. It's played by teenagers that sometimes can lose focus and perspective. Granted if both teams play to their abilities, on paper the Birds should win. But if the Birds think this one's in the bag and don't come out strong to start the game, the Tigers may take advantage of it and make this a game.

One of these years they will play each other on a up-year for Beechwood. Seems like every year they play, Beechwood is good, not great.

 

Play them in 96'-97' you may have different results.

 

How bout this- play in 2010 and Beechwood would actually be the favorties.

Wouldn't bet on that happening.

When you are a school like Beechwood when you are up you can be really up and when you are down you can be really down. One thin class of athletes can really hurt your program simply based on the number of boys in the school. Beechwood is most certainly down by Beechwood standards. Highlands has one of their best teams in recent memory. Highlands will name the score.

Some players I expected to see on Saturday from Beechwood, I did not see.

Crane has been injured almost all pre season. Not sure of when he will return.

 

Studer had some back issues that flared up last week which I don't think are too severe. He may be on the field this week.

 

CJ Bertke is not playing football this year.

 

The key player you did not mention is Zach Larimore. He is having some knee issues that don't appear to need surgery and hopefully are fixable with rest. Back this week? Two weeks? More? Who knows?

 

Larimore (DE/TE) and Crane (LB/RB) are two of Beechwood's best defensive players and when you look at Saturday's score, I don't need to tell you how much Beechwood misses them. Larimore by himself would probably have negated 150 yards of offense by Dixie by controlling the end on his side of the field. As someone posted above, a small school like Beechwood can not replace players like these two. Huge impact on both sides of the ball.

Of all years for BW to play Highlands --I wish they could turn back the clock--I think Highlands names the score--Hope for injury free game. BW will not see a more talented team the rest of the year. IMO

Beechwood could be in for a long year unless Larimore comes back. In all the seaosn previews, Rash seemed to be high on the kid. Beechwood will still probably make it to the championship game, but thats 1A football for you.

 

Highlands is Highlands once again. I don't see anyone giving them a closer game than they had the first week. That is, until they play out of the state.
