I don't know what to say about there being too much Highlands chatter on this website. Everyone who posts on BGP is a paying member (including you and me), and as long as the discussion is appropriate a BGP'er is allowed to discuss any team he/she wishes to discuss.

 

If you feel this is unfair, I suggest that you contact the guru. Also, feel free to visit prep sports forums for other states (such as Yappi, which covers Ohio sports)... there is a lot less Highlands chatter on those other sites!!!

 

 

If you don't think there is to much Highlands Chatter on here I guess I need glasses I need go out and buy glasses tomorrow. Why would I contact anyone about this? I can care less. I'm just making a point that I'm sick of hearing about how Good they are. They are good don't get me wrong but we will see how good they are when they play St X. I'm not sure if the 1A schools have told Beechwood they don't want to play their JV or if Beechwood wants to find other opponents. Beechwood is playing their varsity opponent's JV till district play starts. When they get into district play in week 5 and would normally play the 1A varsity opponent's JV, the only 1A school JV they play is Walton. The other weeks are when they play two more games against Dixie and another one against Highlands.

 

Since Dixie beat Beechwood 47-7, HHS should win putting up 80 something to Beechwood maybe making a couple field goals to put up 6 points. No doubt this one will be ugly.

 

As far as the JV goes, with Beechwood being forced to play so many Sophomores in the varsity games because of injuries to the upper classmen, the Beechwood JV will have a tough season this year just like the varsity will experience until the varsity gets in to the 1A teams. The JV doesn't have the luxury of playing half a season of 1A teams so it might be a season of hard knocks and character building humility for them. Such is life but they will be stronger next season for it and things will work out for the best.

Got a feeling this game is closer than what people are saying. Don't get me wrong, I know HHS will win. Probably around 34 to 7.

Actually, the JV played their first game last night against Dixie and lost on a last second TD pass by Zeke Pike 35-32. Pike made 3 very nice crucial plays that led to scores and was definitely the difference in the game for Dixie. It was a great game. It started ugly and was looking like the varsity game all over with Dixie getting ahead 14-0 in the first quarter. But the Beechwood coaches made some adjustments, the Tigers got their game feet under them and did a nice job the rest of the way. I think the Beechwood JV will be competitive even without those key sophomores who are playing varsity. I am sure they are looking forward to their rematch games with Dixie (Dixie and Beechwood have 3 JV games scheduled against each other). The only 1A school on Beechwood's JV schedule is Walton. Beechwood's JV game with Highlands could be a good one (1st of two JV games scheduled against Highlands).

 

Interesting side note, Spritzky was on the sideline with the team and it looked to me like he coached the game for Dixie. That seemed a little unusual.

He likes getting the opportunity to observe the JV players in action and likes providing his input in the offense. I think it was two years ago when Dixie's JV played at Highlands. Highlands was winning big and Tom was sitting in the bleachers. Some very obnoxious Dixie fan was wearing Tom out with comments about how Tom neglected the JV players in practice and the ongoing blow out by Highlands was the result. Tom probably realized the benefit of coaching the JV players to see what they could do and he probably realized that he was better off on the sidelines than sitting in the bleachers and listening to that garbage. :thumb: I know you just thought it was unusual, but I see no problem with Tom coaching the JV games and actually think it makes a lot of sense. Do you agree?

Sophomores getting varsity playing time against Dixie were Joe Staten starting at LB, Dane Everett starting at DE, Cameron Vocke playing about 50% of the snaps on offense in the slot and Corey Cruse seeing some action at both DE and TE. Some others got in for a play or two spelling people and as the Beechwood coaches started trying to find someone who could make plays.

 

There was at least one other that got significant playing time along with Staten, Evertt, Vocke, and Cruse. At times there were 5 or 6 sophomores on the defense.

Coach Rash was coaching on Beechwood sidelines too.

I did see Rash over there in the second half and heard him yell out on a couple of plays. But he didn't call plays on either side of the ball. He let his staff run the game.

 

I don't have a problem with the head coach being on the side line and I am sure the JV players like seeing that the head varsity coach is paying attention. I just thought it unusual that the head varsity coach seemed to be coaching the game for Dixie. And I am not sure I have a problem if a head coach does coach the JV team. It just seemed unusual. I am sure the assistant coaches enjoy getting a chance to run a game in the JV games though.

Dale, I am not surprised to hear about. If I recall correctly, when Highlands got behind, he started running the game in the Freshman championship last year. So if he is going to coach the freshmen game, why wouldn't he coach a JV game. Again, if the other coaches don't mind it, then I guess there isn't a problem.

Dont know if anyone noticed, B-woods' four sophmores that played varsity on Sat. were working the sidelines of the JV game. I am pretty sure Pike, Cohorn, and Bruns played varsity on Sat. for Dixie. I doubt this JV game would have been that close if B-woods four guys were playing.

I was not there but if Dale or EF Hutton speaks people listen. He has faith in his coaches he just likes to get involved. I throw my support behind the man 100%, just ask my jr football team. It is very nice to see a coach ask about kids at the younger levels. You build a program and it breeds success. Just an FYI we have plenty of boys eager and waiting to move forward up the ranks. Heck, Voice of Reason we have a couple of Fort Mitchell products as well.
