The Bluebirds' offense typically starts a bit slow at the beginning of the year. They will still be working out some kinks this week as well. I look for Ryle to be able to run a bit on the Birds, but will find it tough to score. The running game will shorten the game with HHS winning 24-7. This will be a hard hitting game. Ryle is tough and physical, but so is Highlands. I believe HHS has a few more play makers.

 

The past two seasons Highlands has averaged 37.5 points in their 1st game of the 07 and 08 season. Not sure if that quantifies as a slow start offensively.

Highlands will look more like the Highlands everyone is used to on Friday

When you run for 450 yards, not much need for a passing game. I was told Nichols did catch a pass or two which may be more than they needed in last Friday's game. I would also guess they ran more than once to Nichols side of the field so he probably helped a little with that 450 running yards. If anyone is expecting 6 or 7 catches a game and 100 yards, you probably need to change your expectations.

 

Nichols will need to if Ryle is to beet Highlands.

Here's what I see. Highlands is as good as last year - they are always good, quick, tough, well-coached, talented. Ryle is much better on the offensive side of the ball and the same capability on the defensive side with much better overall team speed than last year. Thus, this game will be close. I'm not sure about the basis for these 56-14 and 49-7 predictions, but I hope they continue. Respect is earned - Highlands has earned respect over the years. Judge for yourselves after the game if this year's Ryle team deserves respect.

IMO Ryle is playing at a completely different level than a year ago when these two teams met -- which was a closer game than the score indicated. I expect field position and turnovers to determine the outcome. Neither team has shown what they're capable of yet. Should be interesting.
