Fitting game and way to end this high school basketball year. Central is very well coached and Holmes applied the pressure defense when they needed to seal a victory. I am very glad I was there to witness such a great game and great tournament for that matter.

 

Congrats to the Holmes Bulldogs and their fans for a very special accomplishment. I know you made NKY proud.

One thing to pass along...

 

It was great the other night to see one of the 1956 Carr Creek players proudly wearing a Carr Creek "letter" jacket. I figure he must've been about 70 years old and I just thought that was cool. That's one of those things that can be described as "what Kentucky basketball is all about."

Happy for folks like Coach Henley, John Wimzie, Ron Madrick, and the gentleman who has been the official scorekeeper for Holmes for 40 years.

I would like to add asst. coach Sammy the Bull, Elsbernd!!! As a HC alum, I debated to go to the game but I am sure glad I went to root on my rival Holmes Bulldogs!!!

 

I felt so bad for Housley at the end of regulation and thought he would never live it down if Holmes lost the game. His teamates pick him up and hit shot after shot. Riley's 3 at the end of the 1st. overtime was huge but Central never gave up!

 

Congratulations Bulldogs, I will never forget this game and it was well worth the money and time to go to Rupp and see the best high school game I've seen. All I can say is WOW!!!:banana:

I like the 16th region fans still couldn't stop wanting the BEST TEAM in KY to lose in the replies during the game :idunno::idunno::sssh: We are the BEST!!!:sssh:

 

This 16th region fan certainly wasn't against you guys. I felt Holmes was the best in the state, and should rightfully hold the crown of State Champion. Ricardo Johnson should be the early favorite for Mr. Basketball next year, IMO. Others will score more than him, but he is just the ultimate team player. He is capable of taking over a game, is a lock down defender, and good ball handler/passer, an outstanding rebounder and seems to be a good teammate.

 

Pittman really picked it up today, he was a force inside. Riley played steady throughout the tournament and hit some big shots. Also, the other two Johnsons and Housely were big throughout the tournament. It was a total team effort, and they deserved to be the champions.

 

Also hats off to Central. They were very overrated, probably because of their record, but they have/had a great team. Wilson and Patterson are absolute beast in the paint. I don't remember #3's name but he was an excellent player as well. They were very well coached, and with how they played this week would have been a worthy champion as well. This was the best championship game that I have watched after many years of going to the state tournament.

 

Congrats to both teams on a hard fought game, and thanks to both teams for providing us as specators and fans with a fantastic night of basketball.

Congratulations to the Bulldogs, I have really fallen in love with this team since I moved to the NKY area a couple of years back. From what I know from watching them first hand, and through discussion at games, this is a great and special group of young men. While Jamel is graduating and going on to bigger, and better things, along with Brandon Ousley, James Rice, and Dominique Johnson, they are returning their core group of players and should be able to reload and defend their state title.

 

I also want to give a shout out to Coach David Henley, who has to be in the discussion for the best coach in the state. What he does with these boys is simply amazing and should get more statewide recognition.

 

Now from what I saw at the game:

 

This game was one of the best basketball games I have ever seen. College, NBA, High School, Middle School or Elementary. The game was back and forth the entire time and there wasn't a time until Jeremiah Johnson had the lay up with 5 seconds left in the second overtime that I thought the game was over.

 

For the boys from Louisville Central: hold your heads up and be proud of your run this week, their record was definitely not indicative of your true ability and character. To Ridge Wilson and Tim Patterson, you both are outstanding athletes and hopefully you enjoy careers in the sports that you choose to pursue, whether that be football or basketball. Also, to Coach Bibby, you did a fine job overcoming an 0-8 start to win the 6th region and win 19 of your last 26 games once your team was at full strength and you had all of your players available.

 

Congratulations to Holmes, Louisville Central and to the other 14 teams that advanced to the State Tournament. You represented your respective regions with class and grace and made for an amazing week of high school basketball.

After 31 years of remembering the missed call that was right in front of me at Freedom Hall. I have a picture of Charley Hurt with his hand up through the basket knocking out Beal's shot and the referee looking right up at it. Finally, I can get that bad tase out of my mouth! Seriously though, CONGRATULATIONS HOLMES BULLDOGS 2008/2009 BOYS STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All us alums are VERY PROUD of you!!

Congrats to Coach David Henley, his staff and team for winning the 2009 State Basketball Championship. That banner will look good hanging in the David Evans Memorial Fieldhouse!!!!

 

Congratulations to Coach Bibby and his 13th Cantrell ranked Yellowjackets (out of the 16 Sweet 16 teams) for dispatching Eastern and then taking the Bulldogs to 2OT in what was purported to be a Holmes coronation game.

 

I am Soooo glad that I stayed in Lexington and got to witness this game first-hand. It was awesome.
