That was the toughest shot to watch rim in out in my life... I was so proud that Johnson bounced back from that and made the difference in the OT's... Great win for Holmes, Covington and all of Northern KY, as they said NKY couldn't do it... JUST DID! Love ya Dawgs...:dancingpa

What an amazing game and a great way to cap off a fantastic Sweet 16 where all 15 games were still very interesting deep into their 4th quarters. Even the Holmes/LexCath blowout stayed interesting knowing that the Knights are typically a strong enough team to mount a comeback. I'm glad this time they didn't. :clap:

It was great to see Arrez Henderson down on the floor to celebrate with the Dawgs last night! In my opinion Arrez is an unsung hero for this team. He set the standards that this team continued to follow all the way to a State Title. You just see it in the workman like, unselfish, defense first attitude of the Johnson bros., Riley, Dom & the rest of the guys. Arrez left his mark on Holmes program and his former team mates it's just too bad the title came a year to late for him, but he will be remembered. Congrats & go DAWGS!

I thought that Holmes would struggle with Ricardo going to the bench with four fouls midway through the third quarter, but they kept fighting and mounting a comeback. Congratulations to Holmes on bringing the hardware back to the 9th and the first time for the 35th District! One of the best games I have ever witnessed, great game by Central and a great run with entering the post season with a losing record; nothing but class from Louisville Central. Great job Bulldogs!!!

This by far is the best thing I have ever read! I have told everyone I have seen today about this post. You certainly said everything that needed to be said and felt by all. I have seen so many NKY fans from all schools backing the Bulldogs. It certainly has been a community effort, and I can only hope that no matter who won the State Championship for the 9th region, this post would hold true to it's word.

Congrats to the Bulldogs for showing the rest of the state that there is definitely some great basketball beign played up in NKY.

 

I thought they all played well as a team and every player that saw minutes contributed to the win. Kudos to Housley for dropping those Free Throws late in the game as well as the other Bulldogs. They have such a coolness about them when they are on the floor.

 

My only question is why they settle for 3 pointers so much. They have so much athleticism that they could probably take anybody off the dribble. They persevered last night and came back from a dismal shooting 1st half.

 

Congrats to Coach Henley/Wimzie and the rest of the staff. They deserve a lot of the credit as well for molding a very fine team.

 

As far as next year you can expect to see the Dogs in the thick of things. I would expect them to use JJ and Rico at the point guard now that Riley is moving on.

Are they selling the Champion T-Shirts anywhere? By the time I got to the booth, they only had youth S.

I heard today that the book store may be able to get some. The school will have their own design, not sure what it looks like and those are suppose to be in on Tuesday.

When they started the Holmes game, he was wearing 13?? Can anyone tell me why? Then, during the game, he got blood on his jersey and had to change his jersey. The new jersey he put on was 42?? I am not sure what was going on here. Was this done to confuse Holmes? Also, I thought if you changed numbers during a game, it was a technical. Would appreciate it if someone could enlighten me. As a side note, Ridge Wilson is a "MAN". When he and JJ were going for a loose ball, he pushed JJ aside like a stuffed animal, and JJ must have slid 20 feet. Being a UK fan, I can't wait to see him play linebacker for the CATS!

 

BTW, Congrats to the Holmes Bulldogs. It was a great experience to be at that game. I predicted they would win it when I saw them man handle Scott Co. at the BOK center early on. They have a tremendous team. Great season gentleman.

I had to order mine at the booth. They said they would ship it in 5 days. Try giving them a call to see if you can get one. The company is Event Marketing and their no. is 772.408.5079 ext. 105. They had way to many youth sizes, and not nearly enough adult sizes. Somebody dropped the ball.

Wilson wore #13 in the first two rounds.

 

I remember reading on Jason Frakes' blog on the Courier-Journal website that in the regional finals, both Central and Shawnee showed up wearing their road jerseys. Central had someone go back to school to get their home jerseys, and the item noted that Wilson changed numbers:

 

* We've tipped off at 6:27 p.m. Central's Ridge Wilson (from 42 to 13) and Tim Patterson (from 15 to 51) have changed jersey numbers. As Patterson walked out for the tip, he waived his hand to his nose and said, "They didn't wash them." We'll see whether Central's play stinks.

 

Maybe Wilson kept #13 for superstitious reasons ... I seriously doubt it was for purposes of confusion. Wilson kind of stands out on the court.

How was it going to confuse them? It doens't matter if he wore 13 or 42 or whatever. It be hard to lose a guy that big. And for the record, in the games I saw he wore 42 in black jerseys, 13 in white jerseys. And I assume his jersey had blood or was ripped, etc. It was funny watching Bibby try to cover him up when he tried to change his jersey on the bench, which isn't allowed.:lol:

Did anyone see JJ's answer in the article from the enquirer today when they asked about him missing the layup? One of the most mature statements I've heard from a high school player dealing with an extremely adverse situation...

 

"It was over and done with," he said. "After that, we had more game to play. I wish I would've made it, but I didn't. You don't make every shot. My teammates and coaches told me to keep my head up."

 

I was extremely impressed with Central from the 2nd round on. I admit that I would've never seen them beating Eastern, but they did it with defense. Bibby had them changing defenses without missing a beat nearly every possession. Their matchup zone was well run and most importantly with a defense like that, his kids understood it. Those kids played their butt off and I really really thought that Bibby did a great job coaching to even get them there and then to put them in a position to win.

 

I was worried for Holmes in the first half when they couldn't figure out that that high post was the weak point. 3 for 17 from three was pretty ugly.

 

One shot that I think gets lost in the shuffle is Riley's 3 in OT to put Holmes up 2. That was clutch, ice in the veins. When he hit it my first thought was the section in the program called "Shots heard 'round the state."

 

Dom Johnson gave some big offense.

 

Even after Holmes went up 5 things still got a little hairy when they fouled and put the deficit back to 3. Inbounding the ball can be intersting. It wasn't over until Rico hit that last FT.

 

Great celebration. Watching the various reactions right when the horn sounded was something to see. Those kids dogpiling, hugging anyone you can find, I think one of them just immediately fell to the ground and raised their jersey over their face. You could just tell how surreal that moment was.... You could see the "We really did it" all over them....

 

Overall, outstanding game to watch. I admit, I'm a ninth region guy and by about the middle of the fourth quarter I was a stand up and cheer Holmes fan. I would have been extremely regretful if I hadn't decided to attend the game.
