Holmes 67 Central 63 (2OT)

WOW!

Congratulations to the Holmes Bulldogs, 2009 Kentucky STATE CHAMPIONS! The monkey is finally off the 35th District and ninth regions back! '78, '90 & '08 Bulldogs, '67 Colonels & '65 Indians couldn't win the big one but these Bulldogs did the job. Great job by the players and coaching staff. How appropriate it was to look down and see Bud Wimzie and Dicky Beal celebrating with the team since the championship was stolen from them in '78!

Central head coach Doug Bibby showed nothing but class after the game also. He and his team are to be commended for a great game and carrying themselves with class throughout the game and afterwards!

Awesome job Holmes...congrats.....I also want to give Central major props.....they started 0-8 on the year, and ended up so very close to the title...way to stick with it........Louisville is proud of Central.

Did that have anything to do with there football guys like Wilson and Morrison still playing football? You take Wilson and Morrison off of that team and they'd really be hurt.

Completely agree with the entire statement. Bud and Dicky should have done snow angels in the confetti ha ha ha.... But yes, both teams played there guts out and both carried themselves well. There was nothing but respect on both sides.

WOW WHAT A GAME!!!! I was at the game, and loved every minute of it. Both teams just kept making play after play. I am so happy for Holmes right now, it is just awesome. I will have more to post on this later, once I gather my thoughts. It was just awesome being their to witness this. Also great game by Central, you all played your hearts out.

HOLMES STATE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has been a blast to watch Ridge and his teammates in the football finals and Sweet Sixteen the past two seasons, Holmes as well the past 3 in Rupp....today shows why KY High School basketball is so great...

Congratulations Bulldogs. It's been a very long time coming. A very very big turn out from Alumni. Saw a lot of old friends and classmates. Central played a tremandous game. :dancingpa :dancingpa :dancingpa

Congratulations from an NCC fan! We're proud of you Bulldogs you truley are the best team in the state!!!!!!:dancingpa

What a great game but I have one question. On the Holmes inbounds pass with about 24 secs left. The ball was thrown into the back court and the player looked like he jumped from the front court and caught the ball in the air before landing in the back court. Wouldn't that be considered over and back? It doesn't matter now and I congratulate Holmes on a great win but I was just wondering if anyone else saw the play.

The rule changed.

Morrisson does not play football, Wilson obviously does. Without Wilson and Patterson, Central was awful and couldn't win a game. Bring the football players back to rebound and defend the post, well they made a run.

Morrisson played strong. He took 12 threes and made 5. The interesting thing is, the 5-11 shooting guard didn't take a single shot inside the arc.

Hats of to coach Bibby too. Coach his tail off in the tourney and got the players to buy into their roles and play hard.

Losing the big kid with 3 fouls early in the third killed Central.

...and Ricardo going to the bench with 4 fouls after the phantom charge call didn't hurt Holmes?

I like the 16th region fans still couldn't stop wanting the BEST TEAM in KY to lose in the replies during the game :idunno::idunno::sssh: We are the BEST!!!:sssh:

Congratulations to Holmes Bulldogs! They were truly the best team in the state and proved it tonight. Also, congratulations to Central on an unbelievable run to the championship game.

Patterson was who I meant

Great game from 2 teams who just wouldn't quit. What a great way to finish the season with a game like this!

Congrats to Holmes. Also, congrats to Central. Starting this tourney, who would have put them in this spot. Great effort by all involved!
