Central's Patterson should have been on the All Tournament team. He was a stud player for them all week.

Unbelievable.

Recall sitting in front row at Freedom Hall that fateful March night in 1978.

This exorcised those demons.

First of Congrats to Central. Doug Bibby is a whale of a coach. How often do you see a box and 1, tri and two, 2-3 zone, half court trap, man to man in the state finals...and Central executed it. Brilliant game plan...kept Holmes off balance and used their bulk to their advantage.

Congrats to Dave Henley and the staff....and players. Great effort.

The switch to the 2-3 was brilliant....

You get to this stage, coaching does play a big role. You have to have some. Many can get by for while on talent and guile...but coaching does play a big role.

Throw in some special players who executed and never panicked. Each one stepped up throughout the tournament.

Congrats Dawgs, you deserve it.

Outstanding game. Congrats to Holmes for taking care of business. I feel a certain sense of relief for our 9th Region friends. And, I kind of share it, since I used to live around the corner from HHS.

 

Central has nothing to hang their heads about. They were amazing. Thanks for pouring yourself out for us -- especially Wilson. A true warrior. :thumb:

Just got in from the game with the kids, its 3am and we are all still too wired to sleep. The Bulldogs have defended all that has been posted about them. Each team played a terrific, heart stopping game but the Bulldogs did what they have been doing best, winning games.

 

From a Holmes Alumni who has been to almost every game this season, this was one game that I will never forget.

 

Thanks to all the other 9th Region fans who cheered for us to bring it home!

 

If anyone knows what time the bus pulls into campus (Sunday) please post so we can be there to welcome them home.

Congrats to Central......hold your heads high! You played an amazing game.....and by far, this was the best game I have ever been to! You played with heart, intensity, and spirit. You are an awesome team that deserved to be in this tournament. You should be very proud! It is evident the two best teams made it to the finals.

 

To my Bulldogs............WAY TO GO! You rocked the arena. You never gave up. You pulled each other up when you needed to most. It was evident you wanted this, and you wanted it bad. You hung in there through everything thrown at you.

 

YOU ARE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!! No one will ever take this wonderful accomplishment from you.

 

NKY is proud...your peers are proud....the alumni are proud!

Wow!! What a game, what a year, what a TEAM. In 1978 I was a little 7th grader, went to my first Holmes game that year and then another and another. Didn't make all the road games, but didn't miss a home game. My love for basketball truely began that winter watching that amazing Team. My best friends parents were Holmes grads and huge fans as well. When my friend asked, did I wanted to go watch Holmes play in Freedom Hall, I was so excited. We drove back and fourth every game, even on Saturday. All the rides were very fun and exciting, I remember. We would talk about the great games that were played and read about upcoming games on the way down. Sad to say, but I probably read more that weekend in news papers and the sweet sixteen program, than I did in class that year.

 

In the finals, I can remember my friend and I, along with many others, rushing from the student section to the floor with 2 seconds to go in regulation. Shortly after we made are way to the floor, some big guy wearing #44 for the other Team made a unbelieveable shot and we were heading back to our seats. No need to really continue what happend on that floor 31 years ago, because most of us know. The ride home was really quiet I remember. The only thing I really remember being said was from my friends father. It was something like, there's no way on God's green earth that neither one of those refs didn't seen what just happend in there.

 

That memory will begin to fade now, not go away, but better memories can be shared from here on out. John Wimzie was on that floor as a player 31 years ago, and on the bench tonight as a Coach. Dicky Beal was also a player on that Team and I noticed he was very close to the bench tonight from the 4th quarter on. I kind of watched their reactions as the clock was winding down and they were every bit as excited as the Holmes players tonight, as if it were them in the middle of that pile. It was pretty cool. Great job Bulldogs!! You made alot of people proud tonight. Congrats to all all the players and Coaches and all the former players as well. And to all my fellow alums, finally!!!

 

And thank you to all the N.KY folks on BGP who have supported, not only Holmes, but all of our local Teams who play in a State tournament of any kind.

 

And one last thing. It's my understanding that my friends father watched the game on icn 6 tonight.

Holmes had already turned the mojo around at that point. Look at when Patterson got his third foul and notice it was when Holmes started to turn it around.

 

Holmes did what they had to do. Take advantage of the kid being on the bench. Good teams do that. Holmes is a good team. This just in.

How big is Ridge Wilson going to be in 4 years? Yikes.
