Someone needs to contact the people at Artimis (the folks who control the message boards on I-75/71) and have them display on the message board "Congrats to Cov Holmes Ky State HS Basketball Champions" so the players can see how much the entire Region of NKy appreciate their hard work and how proud we are of them...

Congradulations Bulldogs on a great win tonight !!!:dancingpa

Congratulations to our 2009 State Champion Covington Holmes Bulldogs. A special congratulations to the seniors and especially Big James Rice. He didn't get in the game but he is definitely a state champion. With Pittman, JJ, Ricardo, and some others coming back, the future looks good.

It is not over and back on an inbounds play.

Great win for the Bulldogs!!!

Even if the player jumped from the frontcourt and caught it in the air before establishing himself in the backcourt? I don't want to hijack the thread so again I would like to congratulate Holmes on a hard fought state championship. Wondering about that call is just killing me.

Congrats to the Dawgs! I am very happy for them. First of all, many kudos to Central. I liked everything about the way they played the game, their demeanor and grit, their coach really handles his players and game strategy well, what a great game they played. When they came back from 7 down late after controlling the game for 20 minutes, it showed what they were made of. Great season, Central. For Holmes, you earned it fair and square and deserve to be state champs 2009. Really dug deep after having a very lackluster first half. The entire 9th region salutes you. Coach Henley and staff are high class individuals and this title couldn't happen to a more deserving group. ENJOY! You are #1 in KY this season.

What a great game but I have one question. On the Holmes inbounds pass with about 24 secs left. The ball was thrown into the back court and the player looked like he jumped from the front court and caught the ball in the air before landing in the back court. Wouldn't that be considered over and back? It doesn't matter now and I congratulate Holmes on a great win but I was just wondering if anyone else saw the play.

The backcourt violation requires that a team have team control in the frontcourt. However, the rule does allow for a player to jump from the frontcourt, catch the ball, and then land in the backcourt without it being a violation. The same rule applies to a jump ball situation.

Correct call.

Losing the big kid with 3 fouls early in the third killed Central.

What a great idea!

True. The layup we missed reminded me of the layup missed tonight. Fortunately, for Holmes, redemption was possible in OT. Maybe the most exciting finish of any KY Boys' State Championship game ever????? Best wishes to all seniors from both teams as they go on to bigger and better things in life and cherish the memories from this game. J. Riley was the unsung hero for the Dawgs IMHO!

Hopefully games like that one will get the passage of a shot clock next season by the KHSAA, so people don't waste their hard earned money.

It just looked wierd I guess. I was cheering for Holmes anyway. This was one of the best state championship games of all time.

Congrats to Holmes!

They were one of a few teams (Scott Co, Elliott) mentioned all year as potential state champions and they survived and did what they had to to do to win.

Hats off to the kids and their coach!

Holmes' execution under the Central pressure at the end of the two OT's was a thing of beauty. Very few teams on any level are able to move the ball like Holmes did without turning it over and working for wide open layups. A well coached team and a group of players that were able to execute the plan. It was a work of art.
