The missed shot by JJ at the end of regulation was a result of the ball coming out his hand on the way up before he was ready. Unfortunate.

Coach Henley on Rico and Elijah:

 

Holmes juniors impressive

 

Covington Holmes has two of the top juniors in the state and both have performed well this season, including in a first-round win over Christian County.

 

Holmes coach David Henley said Ricardo Johnson (photo) and Elijah Pittman have had their ups and downs this season, but both are solid players for the Bulldogs.

 

The 6-foot-4 Johnson came into the season as the more touted player off the team. He still doesn't have any offers from colleges, but Henley said he's on the radar for Kentucky and Xavier.

 

UK coach Billy Gillispie was watching both players in the first round.

 

"Ricardo can just do it all and he's not selfish at all," Henley said. "He guarded Richie Phares at 6-8 when we played Scott County, he guarded Steve MacFarland who is 6-5 when we played Boone County. He ran the point for us tonight. He can just do anything we need him too."

 

Henley called the 6-7 Pittman "just a happy-go-lucky" kid. He said he'll need to work on his school work, along with improving his game on the floor.

 

"If he ever gets serious, he'll be really good," Henley said. "He just comes into the gym and plays. I'm talking 5-on-5 or 3-on-3. He never works on a drop step or do this or that. He's just always playing and he needs to start working."

Congrads to Cov-Holmes. They did what many on this board had predicted them to do, I had my doubts, but was obvoiusly wrong! Great job and should have a season similar to this next year.

I dont think you can give Central enough praise! Nobody saw this coming! I know it was mentioned that they started slow because of thier football players and they were alot better than thier record, but they almost won the state title! Wow, well done young men and great job coaches.

Central's Patterson should have been on the All Tournament team. He was a stud player for them all week.

This was my first time to Rupp and I must say it lived up to all the hype. Great surroundings too, restaurants, bars, easy parking. Hats off to the crew that puts this together.

 

Congrats to the Bulldogs!!!!! Last year it was close, but this year, you brought back the hardware. You deserve it!!! Congrats to all of the players, Coach Henley and the entire staff of Holmes. You put in so much time and effort and it finally pays off!!!
