I was jumping up and down screaming at the TV. Buzzer sounded and the ball was clearly still in his hand...

 

I saw the video and thought 0 showed on the clock before he released it but I also thought it was out before the buzzer.

It was a very very close call. I haven't seen the video that was posted earlier but I saw on a newscast from the night before and put it in slow motion. When framed it by 10ths of a second I could see the ball was still in his hand a 0.1, but then when you got to 0.0 it looked to be out of his hand. It was so close I don't know if even a ref would have overturned if replay was an option.

I was at all the first 3 games this week. Then I came home Saturday afternoon. I went to a local establishment in Latonia where I was told they would show the game. The bar was packed and as the game got into the 4th quarter people stopped watching the NCAA games and started going crazy for the Bulldogs. When Riley hit the 3 in the corner the place went nuts. The air was then let out after the shot that sent the game to double OT.

 

But once the Dogs pulled away the celebration began. One man even got on the DJ's Mike and started chanting "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT". It was a great atmosphere. I saw people from CovCath, St. Henry, Holy Cross, Ryle, Lloyd high fiving. Everyone was so proud to be watching a team from the 9th bring that trophy back to NKY.

 

Congrats to all boys, Coaches, past players and fans.

 

I also felt that Arrez Henderson and Timmy Sullivan were a big part of this. They set a standard on how defense had to played and how this team had to up there game. And they stepped up to the challenge.

 

Congrats again to the Dawgs!!!!

NKY definetly has had a great year so far in sports.

 

Both Highlands boys and girls team made it to the state championship in Soccer.

 

In football, Highlands and Beechwood won state championships, while Newcath and SK finished runner up.

 

And now Holmes wins the boys basketball state championship.

 

Could this be the best year ever that NKY has had in sports?

Had a day extra to think about what I wanted to say on BGP due to illness. As a huge Holmes Bulldog Fan. This was one of the most exciting weekends I've ever had as a sports fan. My son and I with a couple freinds of ours had a blast. :dancingpa:dancingpa

 

I would like to congratulate all the teams who made it to the Sweet 16. It don't matter what district or what region you came from, you all are champions. Just to make it to Rupp Arena makes your team one the top 16 in the state.:clap:

 

I would like to congratulate Coach Henley who I have somewhat criticized a little by not letting the boys run. Coach Henley you brought the hardware home and I salute you for what you have accomplished here at Holmes. You stuck with these boys through all the rough times and criticism from your style of coaching. (Which brought home the KHSAA State Championship Trophy.) Coach Wimzie, you are the man. When it comes to letting your voice be heard, its heard throughout the gym. No matter what gym!!!:scared: The boys repect you and so do I as a former Marine, I can relate. And to my boy Sam Elsbernd. This is a great gift to you before you head out to the Navy. When you and the boys came back Sunday and we welcomed you all back. You came up to me and man hugged,"LOL" I saw tears which choked me up a lot. When I looked around Sam. There was tears by many from our community. Coach Stubblefield, I also would like to thank you for coming to Holmes and keeping the winning tradition continue at the JV level.

To our State Champions, thank you for an exciting year. Your athletic abilities and your defense made me a beleiver from day one. I don't have the relationship to you as players that you have with others that you are closer to. I am an alumni and went to school with your parents and parents friends. As a Covington resident and Holmes Aluimni you have made us proud and you conducted yourselves in a very,very, professional way. So in closing, thank you Seniors and good luck in the future in whatever the lord has in store for you. For the underclassman I can't wait until next year. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

It is great to hear replies like this one also. My son and Big Marc follow the football teams from NKY to cheer them on to victory. I listen to the games on radio.

While nky has some fierce rivalries, once those teams get to state there is a special bond between all of the communities up here. It's great how all of the people join as one to support these young men.

 

Everyone backed Highlands, Newcath, Beechwood, and SK in their attempts for football state titles and fans from those same schools backed this Holmes team during their state championship run.

 

Kudos to all those in nky for putting aside the rivalries to join as one and support the KIDS. :thumb:

I enjoyed the video but I also noticed something that has been a little overlooked. The lay in that Wilson made at the buzzer to send the game to the second overtime....guess what? That shot should not have counted. In the video it is as clear as can be that the ball is still in his hands when the clock hits 00.

I noticed that too. We're down here in Florida ands just watched a replay of the game on the Comcast Sports South network. That was such a cool surprise this far from home!

In the stands I thought the shot was good, watching the video I was clearly wrong. With that and the blown JJ layup the game had a feeling to it that was very scary as a bulldog fan. I seen last years game, heard about the 90 and 78 games and this felt like it was going to get away too. These kids presistance prevailed however and they brought the trophy up north for the first time in 28 years.

I have been on the sour end of some of the rivalries and on the smiling end as well on the field. But now some of my best friends are from Newport, Dixie, Highlands, Cov Cath ect. and we still talk trash but at the end of the day we root for each other to bring back the championship when its time to represent N.KY.
