Mrs. Crunch's homeade is also great. But where the heck do you get the cheese like they have in the chili parlors?

We just use Cheddar and shred it, either by hand or in a food processor.

Dixie, hands down.

Skyline shouldn't even be on the list, horrible, horrible crap. :puke:

I know that both Remke's and Kroger's carry shredded cheese under the Skyline Brand in Northern Kentucky

 Can a mod please take Skyline off the poll, please? :D

Gold Star.

I used to like Dixie the best, but I haven't had it in five years or so.

Don't worry, it will eventually soak through the bun and drip off the poll.
When I moved to this area many moons ago, I was appalled to see that cinnamon and chocolate were ingredients in the local chili. I can eat some of it as sauce on a hot dog, or over spaghetti as long as there's enough cheese and onions to overpower it, but that's about it. An acquired taste, I guess.
I can't eat it by itself, either. But I really like it over spaghetti, for some reason.

As far as I know, I only have Skyline available to me. However, BF said he'd bring me some Dixie, when he comes down here. Can't wait. :thumb:

Nothing can beat Mrs. S's black bean chili, though. By itself, mixed with macaroni, or over spaghetti, it's all good. I'd bath in the stuff, if she'd let me.

Mmmmmmmm ..... tasty. :D

Anyone ever tried Blue Ash Chili?

I have, it is a step down from those mentioned above IMO.

Ever try Goetta Chili ?

My mother is from Germany, the daughter of a farmer. I like Goetta a lot. Never had it in chili though.

Goetta

3 pounds pork shoulder

7 cups water

1 cup beef stock

3-4 cups chopped onion

2 large bay leaves

2 stalks celery, chopped with leaves

1 tablespoon salt

1 tablespoon pepper, or more to taste

Poultry seasoning to taste

3 cups pinhead oats

Cut meat into big pieces and put in pot with water, onions, bay, celery, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and lower to simmer.

Cook, uncovered, and stirring occasionally, for 2 hours. Meat should be real tender and fall off bone if that’s what you’re using. Strain and chop meat finely. Set meat and veggies aside. Pour liquid back into pan and add pinhead oats. Bring to a boil, then lower to asimmer.

Cook, uncovered, stirring often, for another 2 hours. Mixture will be thick. Add meat, veggies, and seasonings. Simmer another 1 -2 hours. Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. Line 3-4 loaf pans with aluminum foil and spray each one. Pour goetta into pans, packing down firmly. Let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate.

Goetta and eggs - The breakfast of champions!

Tried it. It's not the same. I'm guessing preservatives are the culprit.

Where I grew up, it was scrapple and eggs. Yum!

Trick question. They're all terrrible.

I'm not sure how they've managed to brainwash an entire area into thinking a) its actually chili (some type of sauce maybe, but not chili) and b) it tastes good.

I grew up eating Dixie, but the thing that put Gold Star over the top for me was how much Gold Star gives back to the community.

They are wonderful to the Fort Thomas Jr. Football league in helping support our annual fundraiser. Also, I have seen them at basketball games giving away coneys. I love their community envolvement and their support of students. For those reasons, (and I really like their chili), I am now a GOLD STAR CHILI FAN.

Henry, you bring up a good point. Gold Star has also supported (donated) food for a charity golf outing I've participated in over the past 3 years. For this reason I should amend my vote. They are great supporters of the community.
