KY people on chili is like asking Kansas people about surfboards.

 

Not if we are talking NKY commenting on Cincinnati style chili.

Funny that this will be my first post, but I feel the need to inform you guys that Cretan's Chili is the best chili in town.

 

Be sure to show up with cash. They don't accept credit card. I've tried nearly all mentioned but Cretan's is far away the best.

 

I used to work up near Hartwell...I miss getting to head to Cretan's for lunch. Great chili!

I don't understand the big hub-bub made over calling it chili. It's basically always referred to as Cincinnati Chili, or Cincinnati-style Chili.

 

I mean, don't we live in a country where we took the game that the ENTIRE rest of the world refers to as "football", and decided to call it "soccer"...and then we made up our own game and decided that THAT needed to be called "football"?

Although I will have it now and then, Wendy's chili is not anywhere near the top of the chili list for sure. All meat, no beans/pasta Texas style for me, and is how I make it.

I guess its like taking a Carolina boy like myself, putting him in central CA and calling what was essentially a sloppy joe barbeque. I was like...what the heck!? That was a rude culinary awaking for me. I give Cincy style chili a hard time mostly just ribbing NKY folks, it's not horrible and I enjoy a good Coney every now and then, but I definitely don't get the fascination with it.

My thoughts exactly. I don't hate it. Don't love it. I will have a coney every now and then from Skyline. It all tastes the same to me, regardless of where it's from, and I absolutely don't consider it real chili.

To just eat it as chili, I'm not a huge fan of any of them. But on my hot dogs or spaghetti, I give a slight nod to Skyline.
