Pleasant Ridge Chili and their Gravey Cheese Fries are to die for. So good. If I could recast my vote, they'd be my choice now.

Dixie is for Cincy tourist, doesnt even stack up to a featherweight in Cincy like Blue Ash chili.

Did a little digging on my lunch break...and a little beyond my lunch break. Looks like, to the best of my knowledge, there are 32 different restaurants/franchises that serve their own original Cincinnati style chili recipe in the Greater Cincinnati area. (Mr. Hanton's is a traveling lunch truck with no physical storefront location.) Then there is also Worthmore's who sells their canned Cincinnati Style Chili in groceries, but doesn't have any restaurant operations at all. Anyway, this is as comprehensive as I could get:

I've had Skyline, Empress, Gold Star, Dixie, US Chili, Mr. Gene's, Pleasant Ridge Chili, Price Hill Chili, Cretan's Grill and Camp Washington Chili. I've also had Worthmore's as well. I'd have to say it's a tie for me between Dixie and Camp Washington.

Not being from around there I have only had Skyline, Gold Star, and some little trucker joint I went to when I was around 14. That place was my introduction to it and was just across the river in a little Ohio town. I really wish I could get the name of it, as I remember it likely being well-known with locals. I get coney's everytime -- the spaghetti thing just doesn't sound appealing -- and go every few weeks to the Skyline by my house. I definitely like the style of chili, but it's sounding like I might need to try and branch out when I make my annual trips Northern Kentucky.

I agree mcpapa. I liked the Dixie chili I tried, but I had to pump it full of Texas Pete hot sauce to get it right.

In the last few years I started putting hot sauce in mine. Definitely enhances it.

By whatever name you use, it beats anything that ever came out of Texas.

Wow! Had no idea there were so many. Going through that list would be like a culinary Iron-Man competition. One would be lucky just to survive.

Ohhh...and all of you Dixie Chili proponents (I'm one of you), have you ever had The Gator?

 

Yes. I haven't had it in quite some time now though. I loved it. I'm going to have to hit it up again.
