Because of this thread, I ran out at lunch to Skyline for takeout cheese coneys. It's a half mile from my work, but by the time I got back, they were stone cold. I'm not a happy camper.

When I moved to this area many moons ago, I was appalled to see that cinnamon and chocolate were ingredients in the local chili. I can eat some of it as sauce on a hot dog, or over spaghetti as long as there's enough cheese and onions to overpower it, but that's about it. An acquired taste, I guess.

 

I agree mcpapa. I liked the Dixie chili I tried, but I had to pump it full of Texas Pete hot sauce to get it right.

I am glad to see that Dixie is still winning!

These were Skyline dogs. The risk of total product evaporation would be too great.

You can't compare the Cincy Style to Southwestern or Texas. They are way to different. But to say no chili from Texas was any good is nuts! There is a whole lot of people that don't thing that chili should have spagetti. Some that don't think it should have Beans. So it is more about personal preference and raising.

 

Personally I think Mine is the best! I vote for my Chili!

The only one that I have actually tried is skyline, that is the only one in our area (Ashland,Ky. area). I have to say that it must just be a bad one (individual restaraunt) considering all of the people claiming how good skyline is bc the one in our area imo is terrible :puke:. I can honestly say that I have never seen over a couple of cars in their parking lot or have I seen multiple cars going through their drive thru at any one time, the place is usually empty. (if it is still there, I haven't been by there or noticed when going that way in quite while)

 

Now, I now it is a regional thing and all. we have had this discussion on other threads. My idea of chili is nothing close to any of these "NKY/Cincy" chili's. That stuff you people are calling chili is a meat/hot dog sauce (and a bad one at that) to us. I also realize that alot of people (probably some on here) find hot dog sauce strange and don't know what that is. We have had some visitors/fans of a couple of the NKY football teams here when their teams were playing Raceland.....when the people at the concession stand ask the customer if they wanted sauce when a hot dog was ordered they got some looks like they were from outer space or something:lol:.

So, I am sure that skyline, gold satr and others mentioned are good and I will certainly look foward to trying them when I am in the NKY area again but as I said before..........where we come from that stuff ain't chili! :lol:

It may be similar in consistency (especially if you hang out at Skyline ) but the ingredients are much different. I would urge you to withhold judgment until you've tried Dixie...or at least, Gold Star. :thumb:
