Question about district champions

Here's a question...

How is the district champion actually determined? Say that Team A has the best district record during the regular season, but is upset by Team B (their district rival) in the playoffs... is Team A (who had the best district record during the regular season) or Team B (who beat Team A in the playoffs) the district champion?

To make it even more complicated, who would be the district champion in the following scenario...

A team has the best district record than anyone else. However, they lose (to a non-district team) in the first round of the playoffs, while the second-ranked team in the district wins its first-round playoff game, thus advancing further in the playoffs. Who is the district champion? Is there such a thing as a "regular season district champion" and an "overall district champion?"

In 2008, whichever team earned the #1 seed is the district champion.

In 2006 and 2007, it was the team that advanced to third round of the playoffs.

Prior to that, it's the same scenario that exists now.

This is correct. The playoffs only mattered in 2006 & 2007. Before and after, the district championship is decided in the regular season.

In '06 & '07, we had a lot of situations like Oldham Co. and Anderson County in 2007 (5A)...Anderson won the district crown "regular season", but Oldham beat them in the second round of the playoffs and won the "official" district title. Very awkward.

Yet another example of why Kentucky should never go back to the playoff system of 2006 and 2007 with intradistrict playoff games and rotating districts. You should never, ever confuse the fans this way.

Besides the current 15th Region basketball fiasco, it's the worst move the KHSAA ever made.
