It was close, because Beechwood kept turning the ball over. Hazard could have very well won this game.

 

Beechwood scored on the last play of the first half to go up 14-0.

 

Hazard had first and goal late in the third/early in the fourth and couldn't come away with points.

 

This game was nowhere close to the score! Beechwood threw a pick inside the 20 and also fumbled on the 1 yard line on a play that would have made it 21-0 that's when Hazard drove to the 8 where the stumbled and came away empty handed.

Congrats to the Tigers on #11 from Polar Bear country.

Beechwood was 4-5 TD's better than Hazard IMO... but valiant effort by the Bulldogs coupled with turnovers by Beechwood kept it close.

Don't know about that. It was clear all the way that Beechwood was a much, much better team. Yet they did not score enough to match their dominance. Hazard took advantage where they could and were one or two plays from this being a different outcome.

 

The "game" was close. Beechwood was by far better but Hazard had everything go for them except score as well and Beechwood won. The better team won but this particular game was close.

I have always hated the "we were WAY better but didn't have our best game" argument. When I played baseball, my pops said the same thing;

 

"Had we not made 4 errors, we would have won." I always countered, "but we DID make 4 errors."

 

Todays game was close. Bottom line.

I was suprised to see Hazard keep it so close, not many, including me thought this would be a game. You all represented the Mountains with Heart and Fight and there is no shame in that. I know that you are heart broken, but you had an opportunity that not many kids get and that is the ability to compete for a State Title.:thumb:

All posts above tell the tale. Hazard had 8 yards of offense in the first half and it looked like Beechwood was going to run away with it as they drove 80 yards on the opening drive of the second half. Teipel tried to leap over the pack from the one and lost the ball just before he came down inches short of the goal line. Hazard then found some offense and drove the ball from the one all the way down field before Beechwood finally stopped them on fourth down inside the ten. From that point forward it was a grind it out battle with Beechwood continuing to have key penalties and turnovers that opened the door for Hazard. But the Beechwood defense was just too good. Coach Rash is a defensive wizard and he now has back to back titles to prove that defense does win championships.

 

Congrats to Hazard on a great season and never giving up when things looked very bad. It is a testimony to their coaches and players that they hung in there and found a way to make this game close.

 

To Beechwood, overcoming 4 turnovers and penalty stopping drives show your grit and desire as well. You were not to be denied and now you have number 11! It was a good old, hard hitting, grind it out, smash mouth football game and that is just the way Beechwood likes it.
