This is just some thoughts after reading some of the post about officiating. .............

 

Before I say what I am going to just know that I did not see this game, I don't have "dog in the fight" so to speak other than I love h.s. football, especially Class A and AA. I am partial to the smaller schools.

 

Now, there have been alot of derogetory comments about the officiating in this one. Those claims may or may not be legit, I don't know. What I am saying is that some on here imo should enjoy your teams victory and another state title addeed to your storied tradition.

From the way it sounds is the Hazard kids, a huge underdog, played their hearts out and left it all on the field. Congrats to them on a fine season.

Should some want to blast me for that then so be it, but I would rather read talk about kids playing in a State Title game ( a game all want to and that most never get to play in) than to read a thread of complaints about officiating. Agreed and well said. Sometimes one comment leads to another and things spiral in a certain direction. Emotions are always involved in big games and no one ever thinks they got the calls they should have.

 

The teams played a great game and both sides showed toughness, determination and maximum effort. Especially Teipel for Beechwood who just kept coming back and coming back after re-aggravating his turf toe and taking a beating all day. Few players with his injury would have been on the field for the opening snap and Teipel was there all day.

First of all I have to agree with what your saying. I like you had no dog in this fight. I was at the game and have to say it was a very bad officiated game. By no means am I saying it affected the outcome of the game. I thought both teams played their hearts out and congrats to both teams on an outstanding season.

No need for the news flash. We are very well aware of who won, and make no mistake, we celebrated our victory heartily.

 

Officiating is a huge part of any game. I dont see what is wrong with expressing an opinion about the quality of it. Overall, I believe referees do their best game after game. Occasional bad/missed calls are a part of that. However, in this case there were too many and it came very close to affecting the outcome of the game. That is a totally separate issue and has nothing to do with the efforts of the boys on either team.

 

Congratulations to Hazard on playing hard. You certainly were a tough opponent. Hope to have the chance to meet you again next year.:thumb:

I too agree,keep in mind also what you are reading here is not posted by BEECHWOOD FANS ONLY.There have been several comments on how bad it was by people outside of BW.Check post #107 for the most recent here.There was terrible calls both ways.

 

Take the fumble someone brought up .If it was a fumble "why did the ref blow his whistle to stop the play showing the BW runner down at the 1 "?

The player who received the 2 unsportsmanlike penalties was not thrown out because the refs said the first was on a different player.This was not the case.

Hazrd played there hearts out.They looked tired in the 2nd QTR.I have seen other teams fold in the 2 nd half but they did not

Truth about the officiating is because of several bad KHSAA rules there are alot of highly qualified refs sitting at home this weekend. The KHSAA DOES NOT use the best officials for the championship games.

The final games are divided among the regions, each region supplies a number of officials. But, the fact that the best official in one region of the state is often less capable than the 20th best from a different region is not considered.

Also, officials are only allowed to work one championship game every five years.

There just are not that many top officials in the state.

I know winning state titles never gets old.

I just finished watching the game again and I think it was a poorly officiated game but it did not impact the outcome. There were just as many bad calls against Hazard as there were for Beechwood. But on most of the big plays, the officials got the calls right and no calls or missed calls would have changed the outcome of this game. I recommend everyone watch the game again before you make further comments about the officials. You might be surprised to see some of the calls you thought they missed were right and some they made were wrong.

One minute forty seconds before halftime. Hazard has the ball 3rd & 2. Head offical sets the game clock. With one minute twenty seconds on the game clock he flags Hazard for delay of game. At 20 seconds!!

 

If I'm not mistaken, the Back Judge usually keeps the time clock anyhow. Very poor officiating! Game changing event! Remember, Hazard loses yardage after the penalty and punts to Beechwood on fourth down. Beechwood goes down and scores with 3 seconds before the half. I call that a game changing "Blown Call".

You are assuming Hazard would have made the 3rd and 2 and that is a very big assumption, especially considering Hazard had 8 yards of offense in the entire first half. Did Hazard change the play call after the penalty because if they didn't, they lost yardage on the 3rd down play? Why wouldn't they have lost yardage on 3rd and 2? I can pick a half dozen calls and missed calls like the one you cite on both sides that had similar impact if we make big assumptions about outcomes of plays that may have followed.

VC I didn't turn on the game until the late second half. Did it show a replay of the Nico fumble at the 1 yard line? I was in the stands near the end zone I thought he was down when the ball came out.

The ball came out clearly. It was a turnover. Sad thing was he could have walked in two steps two the.

Playing the what if game. If BW 44 was even close to being healthy, which he was not, he scores easily either way.
