Great game by Hazard! Kept it closer then many would've thought... Guess Beechwood isn't heads and toes above everyone in the 1A like I thought they were.

 

Read all the posts here and check out the game stats. Bottom line, in most football games the turnover differential is equal to a 7 point swing in score. Give Hazard credit. They were the second best team Beechwood saw this season (after Newport Catholic) and Beechwood played quite a few higher class teams. But I think today's game is as close as Hazard can get to Beechwood and the yardage was doubled on Hazard. Beechwood's defense this year is about as good as it can get in single A.

10 titles since 91 is excellent. I was talking about this year though. I don't think people are giving Hazard enough credit. I weren't trying to say Beechwood was horrible... They won the championship! All I was saying is that they wasn't on "a different level" like I had persuaded before the game. Turnovers hurt them in this game no doubt, but would've Beechwood in the 90's turned the ball over 4 times? I don't know if they did or not. Again... I'm speaking this year alone.

If you're going to get on here and bash officials for not throwing kids out, at least know the rules! A kid does not get ejected for 2 personal fouls. A kid can only be ejected for 2 unsportsmanlike fouls.

Way to go Beechwood, congratulations on your 11th State Title!

^ Thank you on the personal foul calls. I've seen kids get multiple face masking penalties and still play. I listened to the game and sounded like the announcers were giving both teams credit when credit was due. Congratulations to Beechwood.

The point is, some people (inluding me) believe that he SHOULD have been given two unsportsmanlike conduct fouls.

Good points C-man. Hazard played a great second half and I do think they were tackling the ball and that created a couple of the fumbles. The interception was just a bad pass well short of a fairly open receiver. Hazard might be able to win one in ten against Beechwood if everything fell right. But everything went right for Hazard yesterday and they still couldn't win so.....

 

Consider this stat. Hazard's leading rusher Adams had minus 7 yards in the game. I said before the game that I didn't think Hazard could score 2 TD's against Beechwood's defense and I stand by that after watching the game. Beechwood's offense played very conservatively with the lead and tried to grind out clock, which they did. They just kept blowing up when they got in the red zone.

I was giving Hazard credit. Those guys played with a lot of heart. I'm sure coming in those guys knew nobody was giving them a chance to win this game.

It seems that a firestorm was created by a post regarding the officiating of the game. I would like to clarify my original post if I may. It was not in response to fouls being called or not being called, personal fouls happen….. And are even sometimes penalized by the crew working the game. The game is not for the weak, toughen up or get out. The penalties all carry reasonable enforcements, its part of the game. If little Johnny took a cheap shot, the game allows pay back within the stretchable rules. I have seen more than one player crying his way off the field because he was completely dominated.

My thought at the time of the first post was about the lack of knowledge of the crew, poor spotting and making calls when out of position. The KHSAA needs to work harder to raise the quality of the officiating. No one is happy when the game is reduced to its lowest level. Please remember the crew was getting paid to do a job. There is always somebody willing to work harder to keep their job. We owe it to the kids to give them the best playing environment we can.

This is just some thoughts after reading some of the post about officiating. .............

 

Before I say what I am going to just know that I did not see this game, I don't have "dog in the fight" so to speak other than I love h.s. football, especially Class A and AA. I am partial to the smaller schools.

 

Now, there have been alot of derogetory comments about the officiating in this one. Those claims may or may not be legit, I don't know. What I am saying is that some on here imo should enjoy your teams victory and another state title addeed to your storied tradition.

From the way it sounds is the Hazard kids, a huge underdog, played their hearts out and left it all on the field. Congrats to them on a fine season.

I just hate to see any game and effort of the kids from either team scarred by talk of bad officiating. Should some want to blast me for that then so be it, but I would rather read talk about kids playing in a State Title game ( a game all want to and that most never get to play in) than to read a thread of complaints about officiating. I apologize if I am out of line and just wanted to speak my mind after reading some of the post. I have nothing against anyone posting on this one.

 

Again, congrats to Beechwood.....you have a type program that all would like to have and the tradition there is 2nd to none.

 

Congrats as well to Hazard, you had a great season and played with everything that you had. I heard that this was Hazard's first trip to a state championship game. That is something that this team can talk about forever.

I certainly know of a team in Raceland that would have love to had been there. :thumb:
