  1. That hurt the eyes to watch. It doesn't matter who won this game because they will both be overmatched by a much better Newport team. CCH's guard play was abysmal. Both teams turned it over every other play. Just an ugly game.
  2. If Beechwood makes CCH's guards beat them they have a real good shot.
  3. I completely agree with the lack of respect for the coach. It's embarrassing to the School, Basketball Program, Coach, and Individual. There is no reason for that however once it began in that class of 06 to 07 it hasn't stopped. I think the punishment for these occurrences needs to happen. Even if it means sitting a kid for a game. The message needs to be sent that you can't represent the program in that manner.
  4. The issue at CCH as of right now is the guard play. Thelen is carrying the load and Wellbrock is the only one helping. Evans and Wilson seem to be the only ones who have stepped up scoring wise here and there but nothing is consistent. IMO, the reason CCH has been declining is due to player development. The two leading scorers and most productive players for CCH this year are Thelen and Wellbrock both of which play AAU for Shining Stars. If you look at the rest of the roster I'm not so sure any of them play any AAU ball at all. Evans has but then again this is his first year playing on the High School team. Now if you look at players such as Votel, Nestheide, Tierney, Grimes, Jacobs, Shover, Shmerge, and Bondick are all players who played aau and focused mainly on basketball. (Maile exception but just a gifted athlete and Bovard played football but also ended up playing college basketball) They were dedicated to getting better and most went on to play college and if not had the opportunity too. Look at this years team...Thelen is the only candidate for college ball and Wellbrock possibly. The talent level, imo, has significantly dropped off. And when you don't have the talent you have to find ways to get around that. However, I think the player development by the coaching staff is poor because really Coach L never had to deal with this issue. He was blessed to have some really good players throughout his years at CCH and now he is in a situation where he just doesn't have those players. CCH year after year would just reload but that just hasn't been the case of late. I agree with CCH5432 about getting more experience when they players are younger but the problem is that there isn't a competition for starting spots anymore. It's more of a situation where Coach L doesn't really know who to start or who to play and there really hasn't been a set group of individuals who play consistently. Some games Wilson others Huedepol. Some games Klein others Robinson. It seemed as in the years past CCH always had some good players coming up through the system who were competing for varsity spots and then when the seniors graduated they reloaded with those guys. Now you look at the roster and I'm not so sure any soph's dress, maybe 1 a game?? Also, who is the floor general at CCH? Coach L has always been a guard motivated coach as CCh5432 as pointed out several times, haha. If you look at past successful teams they always had a solid guard or two to lead them. Nestheide, Kennedy. Tierney, Jacobs, Bovard. Shover, Bondick. There is no one out there really taking charge and there isn't really anyone who Coach L has given the ball and trusted him with it.
  5. Everyone has stuff to work on however for being just a sophomore he is pretty impressive. Especially if he scores 24 opening night regardless if he did most of his damage in the first, second, or third quarter. The only quarter that will matter at the end of the day is the 4th. Good players and good teams know how to control a lead and close out the game in the 4th quarter.
  6. Nothing happened at this game except he from what it sounds like was the leading scorer and led his team to a 20 point victory. I don't agree with what he did especially if his intent was what it sounds like it was however the Colonels, as you are, should have taken this as an insult and did a little better job on him at the defensive end.
  7. For a D1 recruit I would venture to say he is better than just ok...
  8. I think you mean better post play rather than guard play? CCH will have a better chance to get out of the district this year simply because Beechwood and Holy Cross are really weak this year. Beechwood won't contend, Holy Cross may surprise them. CCH may have more depth in the sense they can afford to play more players because no one player is really better than the other. Imo, it would serve this team better if they would press and get after it on defense. That would give Listerman a reason to go 10 or 12 deep everynight. Also, they are not going to be able to shoot as consistent from outside as teams in the past and they just aren't good enough to slow it down and try to get it to Thelen and Wellbtock down low. (scoring won't be consistent enough) I think it would be nice to see them pressure other teams, get in passing lanes, and make steals for easy buckets. Heck for how good Lex Cath's press is CCH had fewer turnovers and more points of steals then they did.
  9. Imo, the colonels will have a tougher time then most tend to think. This is simply because the talent around the 9th is much stronger as a whole. Due to their easier schedule than last year it will give them a chance to maybe go .500 or a couple games over. Evans and Thelen will be key factors of how much noise CCH can make this year.
  10. Whether they run the table the ninth or not I don't think they are concerned as long as their cutting the nets down again. Would not be surprised one bit if they actually go undefeated in the ninth though.
  11. Were talking about Michael Romes. Brian's older brother.
  12. They may have lost to Newcath or someone else however whether their win streak is 2 or 50 it doesn't matter because they got that state title to back it up. In the end that's all that matters. I would have to say they are very likely to run the table in 9th after being state champions last year and losing maybe 2 key players and returning alot. Even if they don't run the table in the 9th they are still one of the favorites to win state again.
  13. Thank you! Looks like I'm not the only one Sandman. I really think you need to drive across the river and see his game for yourself! Also, he was definitely a better all around player than Sorrell in high school. I think you just might be surprised how good Romes has become. Sandman won't budge as he is very partial to Sorrell....:sssh:
  14. How will they have a tough time guarding him when they have Rico and JJ? Not only that but when Gabbard is driving to the whole there is Elijah waiting down in the lane. Also, don't forget about Avery and Arnold-Rice who both have good size. Holmes is stacked. They will run the table in the 9th. Team's just won't be able to keep up with their athleticism.
  15. I think to say Romes couldn't play at NKU isn't accurate and I said it's my opinion. As for going up a division yes that certainly is true however that doesn't mean that a D3 player couldn't play D2. Also, I would say there is a bigger jump from D2 to D1 then D3 to D2 imo. Your perception was already made up that Sorrell in your opinion is a better player as well.
  16. Ha the humor! And if Sorrell doesn't get pt and put up numbers then what are you going to say. Whether you want to believe it or not imo Romes can compete on that level and to say sorrell is a much better basketball player isn't true. But in the whole scheme of things on my initial point NKU missed out on some really good local talent!
  17. I think you misread what I was meaning to say. I meant that he red shirted last year therefore he has yet to actually play for NKU. So to say he is where he belongs isn't quite true just yet. He still has to prove himself to get playing time.
  18. I'm letting his height fool me. However at the D1 level there are going to be times where he is going to be match up against players who are just as quick as he is who are much much bigger and stronger. Therefore Rico and Guyn are better suited for the High D1 schools.
  19. I have to agree with westsider here. Guyn and Johnson fit the make up of a high D1 athlete. Justice is good but he isn't quicker, stronger, or more athletic than Johnson or Guyn. I think the reason Justice is getting the attention is because he is in-state talent. I think a walk on offer from Pitino will be likely if he offers anything at all.
  20. Also, to say Sorrell is where he belongs is a bit ahead of the game. He had to redshirt last year and he has yet to actually play there. As for Romes he has been a proven player in D3. I wish Corey the best but that just isn't accurate quite yet.
