St. X comes back after ending the 1st quarter down 20-5.

 

Is St. X any good this year?

I could write up an entire post on this game as in the first quarter CovCath played as well as I have seen a CovCath team play in a while, but..... Congrats to Lou St. X for never quitting nor giving up.

 

If you want to know or why CovCath lost this game and are 3-4 for the season instead of 6-1, all you need to do is look below at just one stat from last night game to understand why!

If you don't make your free throws, you are going to lose games and there you have the CovCath season in a nut shell so far!

Also, from seeing the box score, it looks like Thelen was the only one who showed up for the Colonels. I believe he finished with 24 points and Wellbrock was held to 6.

 

 

 

 

Thelen is having a great year so far but the Colonels need to get better at hitting the freebies if they want to turn those losses into wins.

 

I think they need to chalk many of these games up as learning experiences and try to get better come tournament time.

I agree, I think they thought this game was over after the first quarter. Play hard until the other team quits and then play even harder. Free throws are another thing but those seem to be a head trip now.

 

Thelen is playing great defense in the paint too. Good to have someone excelling on both ends of the court.

Still don't understand what Trevor was thinking, when even the men in stripes were going to allow him to go to the bench instead of shooting two from the charity line! He indeed got hammered hard on the play. :confused:

Coach L was indeed furious at him for not coming out and anyone who has followed CovCath basketball for the last two years can understand why!

 

I truly don't know if Trevor didn't understood what was going on at the time or just felt that he wasn't going to take himself out of the game?

St. Xavier 55, Covington Catholic 49 - The Tigers(1-3) picked up their first win on the road against the Colonels(3-4). Patrick Butcher and Matt Lohr each had 13 points for the Tigers. Butcher also had five assists, and Lohr grabbed 13 rebounds for a double-double. The Colonels were led by Jake Thelen with 24 points and 11 rebounds. The Tigers got off to a slow start, scoring only five points in the first quarter, but they were able to tie the game in the last minutes of the fourth quarter. They went on to hit their free throws down the stretch for the win.

Cov. Cath. is 2-0 on the road with big wins at Ryle and at Conner, 0-3 at home, 1-1 on a neutral site. Go figure.
