I know when the won they were in the Sweet 16, the program listed them as Covington Scott. I think this was done to prevent confusion with Scott County.

Tonight they were "Great Scott!"

The final score is somewhat misleading. Scott ran away from the Colonels at the end of the 2nd quarter. The game was a blowout by the start of the 4th. Near the end of the game Scott emptied the bench and the Colonels went on about a 10 point run to make the final score more respectable. Kellen Smith had a great game. In the 1st half whenever Cov. Cath. closed the gap, he slammed the door shut. Two not-so-good games in a row for the Colonels. They seem to be ebbing at just the wrong time.

Don't look now, but the team that worries Clark County the most is starting to put it together. They will be a tough out come tourney time.

One of the smallest crowds of Crazies that I have seen in a long, long time and honestly, I guess I can't blame them.

 

This CovCath team looks lost at the moment as the guards look to be scared to death to shoot the ball.

 

Of the 45 shots CovCath took I am guessing that (not counting the last couple of minutes) the guards only attempted maybe 10/12 of them.

 

Strangest play I have seen in a long, long time.

 

Wellbrock had a break away and was going to be attempting a bunny up against a much smaller Scott player. Now less than maybe 5 steps or so from attempting his layup one of the men in Stripes blows a whistle to give Coach Carr of Scott a "T".

 

Now I have no idea if Coach Carr deserved the "T" or not, but to stop a break away to give the Coach a "T"? Now if the foul had occurred on the floor, of course you stop the play but to give a Coach a "T"? Why not let the play continue and then "T" the Coach up! Just thought it was strange!

A couple random thoughts on the game:

 

1) The officiating seemed very suspect, both ways - walks, touch fouls, muggings, just seemed to me that there was no consistency as to what the stripes were going to call/not call last nite. And I totally agree with you TOG on the 'T' call on Carr. I think Trevor was actually going to dunk over the guy when the play was stopped

 

2) The guards are very reluctant to shoot. Last nite even Riedinger passed up on some shots he would normally take. I thought initially coach maybe had told them not to shoot, but even he told Brett to take the shot after he passed up on one of them. I know we are still short on guards, but these guys have got to be more aggressive on offense.

 

3) There was 'in-fighting' amongst the players last nite that I really had hoped not to see this year. I thought it would all be gone with last year, but it reared its ugly head last nite.

 

4) Again, way too many bunnies missed last nite, and guys are not strong enough with the ball. How many times was it simply ripped from guys hands, even when we had two hands on it?

 

5) We were way too lazy on the defensive end last nite - things were too easy for the eagles on many of their offensive posessions. Where was the help defense?

 

6) Last nite there appeared to me to be no Senior leadership for the colonels. As each game passes, the Seniors are less and less vocal on the court and sidelines. Thelen was the only one who I noticed trying to get the team fired up. Not sure if this was partially due to the lack of Crazies there or not, but it would be nice to see some of the seniors really trying to fire up the troops.

 

7) What happened to Robinson and Heimbrock?

 

8) Rebounding? Where was it

 

9)Free Throw shooting - once again, all did poor, even Brett.

 

10) Excitement on the bench - even when there was a good play, the guys on the bench show no emotion, no reactions/support to their team. They need to be supportive of each other

 

11) Not to be all negative - I did see some positives last nite:

a) Thelen hit some of those mid range jumpers, which should help him when guys come out to guard him. I also liked him trying to rally the guys, esp at halftime

b) Connelly played very well, kept his head in the game, took his shot when open, played solid defense and made the best block I have seen all year.

c) Shult got in and provided a spark, but it was much too late in my opinion. He brings such energy and emotion that they need to get him on the floor more, even just minute here and there.

d) appears Maschinot is over his ankle injury as his quickness was there, but he looked rusty and needs to get a bad play out of his head immediatley - seemed to revert to last years form.

e) Good to see Austin hit the floor for a bit, as he is getting over his ankle, but it did look like it was bothering him a bit when he came out

f) A couple of the set plays worked very well when they were executed. There was a long inbound pass on one play that was very nice.

 

Sorry for the length of the post - overall this was the most disappointing game I have seen this year. If they do not get their act together by Friday, they could lose to the indians and not make the region again this year.
