So has Maile actually been crowned as POY or is it still yet to be released?

I completely agree here. CCH has more talent year in and year out compared to Beechwood. Mayerhoff still gets the job done even with being in arguably the toughest district in the 9th. (CCH and Holy Cross) This year Meyerhoff beat Krumps at his own game. Not only at his own game but with less pitching as well. I personally thought strategically Meyerhoff couldn't have played it any better where as I don't understand why Krumps doesn't save Isler to the finals. It doesn't mean anything if you can't convert in the finals, your just another runner up and in this case 3 straight years. But then again the whole pitching senario is debatable. Also, on Krumps...This year's class was suppose to go to STATE no doubt in anyones minds. But with this unbelievable class they only showed for 3 straight 9th region runner ups? Now I know that this class was loaded this year but what happened?

Just curious does anyone think Zach Isler was snubbed on this years POY? Although Maile is very deserving of this award I feel Zach Isler should have won it.(Not to take anything away from Maile because he is obviously one of the best players in the state) Isler had to of been the most dominant pitcher in the state this year. He was 11-0 with an ERA of 1.22 and 70 k's on the year. Although his hitting wasn't as strong as previous years he still hit for an average of .385 with 17 2B and 43 RBI's. Maile hit for .510 with 50 RBI's, 10 2B, 2 3B, and 12 HRs. Stats from nky.com. Not sure if their exactly right but I bet TOG will be more than happy to fill us in if they are inaccurate.:ylsuper: Obviously Maile wins the hitting comparison however it is the Most Valuable Player Award. I believe Isler was the most valuable to his team. He was single handedly responsible for 11 of CCH's 33 wins. Not only was he dominant on the mound but he did hit for a very nice average and knocked in quite a few runs. Without Isler CCH doesn't end up with 33 wins and does not have as good as a season as they did. Yes of course Maile contributed to that as well however pitching is what wins you championships as it proved to be that way in the ninth this year. Snyder held CCH to one run and I'm pretty positive no one held CCH to one run this entire year. Any thoughts?

This is quite an impressive 4 years at CCH. Congratulations on a well deserved award for 3 straight years. Next up Mr. Baseball.

We can go back and forth for days about this call but the fact of the matter is that, as the TOG stated, the play didn't affect the outcome of this game. Beechwood won in a hard fought battle to upset the favorite CCH. Thats it.

If Smith is eligible to pitch things could get interesting against Nutuni. CCH will still be the obvious favorite even if he is on the mound but without Isler pitching I think Beechwood will be able to hit and score in this one. I'll take CCH 8-4.

CCH is by far the best hitting team in the 9th region. Their top three hitters Maile, Darner, and Isler are probably leading the region in every hitting category. Maile has a ridiculous amount of home runs while Darner has the most RBI's in the region. I would venture to say that they both have the best batting averages as well. Hitting isn't everything. As we know it comes and goes. Pitching followed by outstanding defense is what will get you to Applebees park. I'll take CCH. The draw is definately in their favor and it's their's to lose. Also, it will be nice to see a team advance that has a legitamate shot at winning state.

TOG, I agree with your assesment. You must win the first game to get to the next. However, whats the difference if you lose in the first round or the second. By throwing Connor or Etscheid in the first round your pretty much lose the only chance you had at beating CCH. With Isler on the mound throwing against Connor or Etscheid CCH is still the heavy favorite. As I said earlier if Isler is on the mound for CCH I would take them over any team in the state he is that dominant. But as I also said earlier, NCC has to like their chances against CCH with Connor on the mound. He was able to get the win last year in the regional finals. And again all the pressure is on CCH if they don't make it to state for the 3rd straight year after being the favorite each year. Same with Ryle. They have to like their chances with Etscheid on the mound in the sense that both times he threw against CCH they lost 2 to 1. I know for a fact one of those games was against Isler I'm not sure about the other one. You have to play to win the tournament. Even if you lose with your ace on the bench as a coach you should have confidence in a number 2 to get the job done. And we all know if you only have one pitcher to get you through the region it's virtually impossible. CCH had Niehaus, Nutuni, and Isler last year along with Krumme and it didn't turn out to be enough. But then again it's baseball and who knows what can happen.

I completely agree with Coachg13207 on this one. I personally think it wouldn't be a smart move for either NCC or Ryle to throw their aces against each other. Like TOG stated CCH has beaten Ryle 4 times and I believe they have beaten NCC 2 or 3 as well. In those four games Ryle has pitched Etscheid and Donovan twice resulting in four losses. However if you look at the scores stated above in the thread with Etscheid on the mound they lost to CCH by the score of 2 to 1 twice. With Donovan on the mound they have lost 4 to 2 and 17 to 7. Don't get me wrong Donovan is a great pitcher but when you face CCH in the regional and you want a great chance at knocking them off you have to go with Etscheid.(Which still has yet to happen) Same goes with NCC if you waste Connor in the first round you set yourself up for a run rule the second round. I recall attending the NCC vs CCH game at CCH with Isler and Meyer on the mound. Let's just say it wasn't pretty...10 run rule in the 5th and Isler maybe gave up one hit. NCC couldn't touch him nor even get the ball out of the infield. If you NCC you have to love your chances playing CCH with Connor on the mound. Even last year, CCH was the heavy favorite until Connor stepped on the mound and led the Breds to the Regional Title. All the pressure would be on CCH who is even more favorited this year then last. You have to play to win the tournament or actually have a shot. Especially with how loaded CCH is this year. CCH's draw is great beacuse it really doesn't matter who they throw. They go with Krumme the first game against St. Henry. Either Isler or Nutuni second round against NCC/Ryle. But it really doesn't matter who throws that game beacuse no matter who they would play in the finals I would definately take Isler over anyone and Nutuni over anyone besides Smith. However Beechwood isn't going to get by HHS, Dixie, and Connor without throwing Smith in the first or second round.

Will NCC throw Connor and Ryle throw Etscheid? Or do both teams save their aces in hopes they can get by the first round game and have a good chance at knocking CCH off with ther best pitcher? Relates back to do you throw your ace to advance or do you play to win the tournament and try to save some pitching?

Isler is the POY. There is no reason he shouldn't be. He is 11 and 0. Don't get me wrong this is a very good ball club but they wouldn't be 31-3-1 without him. Also, as most baseball fans know your not going to win to many games without good pitching. He is as dominant as they come. Not only has Isler lead Northern Kentucky in pitching but he is also one of the top hitters in the region. I can recall a very close game, ryle maybe, where Isler only gave up one run on the mound and hit in 2 RBI's to win 2 to 1. When he is on the mound I would take CCH over any team in the state.

Oscar is right on this one. There is no way you can score that a hit. Siemer is an excellent second baseman who commits very few errors but this one was definately an error. It was hit a couple feet to his right and it wasn't like he couldn't get to it. He was there in plenty of time to get his body in front, it just so happen to hit off his glove and roll into the outfield.

Not to be picky but the 2nd basemen committed an error hit up the middle and skipped off his glove into the outfit.

I think it is around 45. Will he break Maile's RBI record? If I remember correctly Maile set the RBI record at 65 his sophomore year? Darner has to be leading candidate for POY followed closely by Isler who is now at 7-0 on the year.

Three years ago this class was favored to advance to the State playoffs in each consecutive year but have failed to achieve for various reasons. Can anyone provide insight as to why? It seems as if they don't make it this year, it will go down as a major disappointment with such promising talent.

Souces from CCH tell me that he could potentially see some limited action on Tuesday vs. Campbell County. He returned to practice last Wednesday.

Anyone know if slusher, tiepel, daniels, and downton have any offers to play college? Mainello I believe is on scholarship to attend Central Michigan?

From what I have been told, he did a respectable job on Vee Sanford in both scrimmages this summer and a decent job on Ricardo Johnson in the summer AAU tournaments. The Elliott Co trio lost by double digits last year to CCH in the Lex Cath Christmas Tourney in which Shover put up 21 against "The Faulkners".

He averaged over 11 points a game last season as a junior; safe to assume he could post something higher this year, when healthly. Also, takes very good care of the ball and controls the offense. If so, your are down to a three possession game......

Which of the two is better Ethan or Evan? From what I read in a previous post Evan signed with a division one program...Radford University. But looking at the 2009 top 40 Ethan is ranked in the top 10 while Evan is about 27th on the list? Just curious if the names were mixed up?
