CovCath 10 Cov Holy Cross 1

 

In a 35th District seeding game, CovCath defeats Cov Holy Cross behind an outstanding pitching effort by Zach Isler. Ice went seven complete innings throwing 91 pitches in winnings his seventh straight game of the season, while striking out 8 and walking no one. Isler is now is 7-0 on the season.

Man the CCH team this year is just a wrecking ball. It is going to take a special game by someboody to knock them off in the 9th.

I thought someone mentioned that he pitched yesterday against Dixie, but I may be wrong. I think that it stated in the preview thread of this game that HC's coach started Roenker yesterday because he believed that it was supposed to rain today.

Nope. He pitched the night before against Dixie.

Did HC concede the district #1 seed by not holding Roenker back for this game? White towel?

Well I was wrong, Mother Nature got beat and in fact all the little bit of rain did, was to settle the dust. Man the weather men sure blew the forecast today.

 

On to the game. HC number two man threw today for the Indians and who can blame them, as HC has a very good chance to win The All "A" Tounney. Good luck guy's

 

CovCath first: Nutini K, Siemer goes 4 but then Maile hits a single and Darner follows with four straight pitches out of the strike zone to put runner on 1st and 2nd with Isler at the plate. With a 1-2 count Ice hits a rocket over the CF head for a double and knocks in two runs. B Reese comes into PR and Holocher walks. Holocher in stealing second gets the catcher to over throw and Reese come in to score CovCath 3rd run of the inning. So after CovCath first at bat CovCath leads 3-0

 

Holy Cross 1st, & 2nd innings. HC gets one hit but leave the man at second.

 

CovCath 2nd: Stayton K Schlagbaum singles, Nutini 7, then Siemer reaches base via E-5, Maile is intentional walked after going 3-1 (when are teams going to learn that RD is indeed a special hitter and RBI man) and RD hits a single to knock in two. After two complete CovCath leads 5-0

 

CovCath 3rd: Holocher gets a single, Lafever gets a single, Stayton lays down a great sac bunt and Holocher scores on a E-2. After 3 complete CovCath 6-0

 

HC 3rd, 4th, and 5th they get a total of two hits, and Ice is in complete control.

 

CovCath 4th: Darner singles, Isler single Holocher single to drive in Darner and B Reese

 

CovCath 6th Darner singles, Isler doubles to score RD and Holocher singles to knock in B Reese who runs for Isler. After CovCath top of the six it is 10 and HC.

 

HC sixth: 6-3, Fly ball to Nutini but the sun is in his eyes and he doesn't see it single by Rickles, double by Roenker, SF 9 by Ritter to score the lone HC run so after six complete it is 10-1 CovCath

 

The seventh finds CovCath leaving two men on but not scoring but HC goes K, K and 4 to end the game.

 

The good: Isler pitching, the hitting with a total of 12 hits and 3 doubles.

And the "D". Tyler Holocher makes a huge plays in the third that won't show up in the score book but man, it shows how smart he is as a ball player. HC third, Baker gets on via E-4 then, Cooper then hits a pop up just a little deeper than second base, well the HC runner must not have seen the ball as Holly seems to try to catch a ground ball hit up the middle and the HC runner just fly by second base, only to have Siemer cath the easy pop up and throw the ball to Krumme for a very easy double play. Now the HC coach complained biterly about the play, but there is no rule against faking out a base hit. Their is a rule about faking a runner into slide but that is not what Holly did. If the HC coach wants to be mad at someone it should be at the runner and the coach for losing sight of the ball.

 

The bad; Well....CovCath left 10 men on base today, just too many to suit me,a dn CovCath did have two errors today.

 

The ugly... Well I thought the weather was going to be, but that will teach me to listen to the local weather men....Take the bums out of the game!

BTW it would be nice if a lot of folks say a prayer for Ryan Darner Grandmother. She is in St. E's after having her hip replaced and while she is doing better, but she has a long way to go.

 

To tell you what kind of kid RD is, after wining a huge game like this today, and RD having a great day at the plate, instead of going out with his teammates, the young man goes over to see he grandmother in the hospital. :thumb:

If my stats are correct, he has 45 RBI's in 21 games. As I have said time after time why more college coaches aren't knocking on his door simply amazes me. Not too many HS kids have 45 rbi's in 21 games....

I think it is around 45. Will he break Maile's RBI record? If I remember correctly Maile set the RBI record at 65 his sophomore year?

 

Darner has to be leading candidate for POY followed closely by Isler who is now at 7-0 on the year.

RD benefits GREATLY with Maile batting just ahead of him. That means he will get to see more pitches because if they duck around Maile they have to throw to Darner. CCHs lineup is very solid 1-9 and can hit with anybody.

sounds like CC is very solid. If they have a weak spot or a spot that needs to be worked on, what is it? Is there anyone left on the schedule that can beat them? If so, who? Do they have any guys that have already signed and if so where have they signed?
