Sometimes I bring one back to Lexington, because you will never find another sause dog like it.!
Now I'm gettin' hungry! The way everyone talks about it, it must be worth the trip down there all by itself.

Although it would be hard to beat the footlong coney at the (world famous) Silver Grove Dari Bar...but that's a whole other animal.

Sometimes I bring one back to Lexington, because you will never find another sause dog like it.!

They got one of the best concession areas around, them and Raceland

No disrespect, but I'd guess that there are less than 10 Highlands posters that have actually seen JC play this year. I know of only 5 Highlands fans that have and that includes you and me (and of the 5 that I am aware of, 2 of them don't post on here). So I think its say to say that a large majority of Highlands posters predicting a Highlands win have NOT seen Central first hand. Perhaps I'm wrong and a lot of Highlands posters have seen Central play this year, but I don't think I am.

This game is going to be very close. I'll take a one point win in a NY heartbeat without the least bit of disappointment (unlike the BS game).

And I do agree with you that JC does have some fast skilled players. Dillon, Welch and Richardson come to mind quickly. No. 1 and No. 5 (sorry, don't know their names) also have very good speed and if given a seam with our defenders out of position just a little, can take it to the house right now.

And I like how Matney puts his skilled players in a position to utilize their talents. Welch touches the ball from the backfield, from TE and from the wing. He passes the ball from the TE spot (I'd never seen a tight end aroung pass thrown before the Montgomery game) and catches the ball from all kinds of different positions. Matney is a very crafty and innovative coach. I loved seeing the overbalanced O line which seemed to confuse CovCath early on. When CovCath adjusted to Central running to the strong side, Matney started to run with great success to the short side and utilized the blockers in the backfield to exploit CovCath's shift to the strong side. Just brilliant coaching by Matney. Heck, he even tried the double flea flicker pass against CovCath. :scared: which I'm sure was for the benefit of the Highlands scouts in the stands.

I hope these predictions of a big win caused by Highlands speed and our ability to shut down Central's one dimensional O are correct, but I don't think they are. It will be a close, make that very close game in mu opinion based on my observations of Central.

And I won't even point out that at least one of the Highlands people that accompanied me to watch Central play was so very, very wrong when he disagreed with me and predicted after that game that CovCath would beat Central. I wouldn't want to embarrass Silver Streaker like that. :D:D:D Sorry my friend, I just HAD to.

Actually, I thought Covington Catholic would have given them a much better game. I was taking into account Cov Cath's tough schedule, and especially, their historical strong post season play. Apparently, I gave coach Dave Brossart and Staff too much credit to repeat the trend left by Rodenberg and Ray. Also, my prediction was just 2 weeks removed from watching JC play against winless Montgomery County. A contest that I did not walk away from terribly impressed. Montgomery was just awfull. Sorry!

I, like you, thought favorably towards JC's "skilled" players. I remember three or four standouts that played hard, smart and just plain good smash mouth football throughout the contest. On the other hand, the O and D lines were not very athletic or fleet of foot and appeared to wear down as the lop-sided game progressed against Montgomery County. JC's line reminded me of the big O and D lines we faced last year against Letcher and Lincoln County during the "mountain football" playoffs. (Remember the lad called "Rooster?") Very nice size, but slow and "well done" before 4th Quarter play. My prediction, IMO, JC will be no different that what the Birds fans witnessed last year against the aformentioned football teams.

I have already commented on the kicking games... punts and lack of depth on kick-offs will certainly provide the "Birds" favorable field position throughout the contest.

I see the Birds getting up quick on O and the Birds D playing with a lot of emotion in honor of their fallen comrade, Brandon Roller.

The Highlands fans will find JC having one of the best, if not the best athletic facilities in the Bluegrass state. I applaud their efforts in securing the dreams and then funds to build such a nice complex for their students and for their community. Well done! :thumb:

If HHS does not stop the "belly second-man" we will have a LONG bus ride home. From what I've seen/heard from JC, they execute this extremely well and their QB hides the ball really well. Their backs are big, fast and they block well downfield. This very well could be a MAJOR AMBUSH!! Focus Birds, FOCUS!!!!

Very good observation! Especially from the expert... belly second man!

The QB does a very nice job on the execution.

Anyone from HHS considered going AA to/toward Ashland and then down 23 to Paintsville? Obviously less Interstate/Parkway, but the AA is a good road and I think 23 from Ashland to Paintsville is good road. Definitely wouldn't come back that way in the dark, but might be a nice change of scenery for the drive down.

Assuming 2.5 hrs. from NKY to Ashland and 1 hour from Ashland to Paintsville, seems pretty close on the driving time. Thoughts?

Any of our Ashland or Johnsonville brethren care to comment on the quality (or lack thereof) of US 23 from Ashland to Paintsville? I know it used to be a nightmare if you got behind a coal truck, but I've heard that US 23 has been upgraded substantially in the past years. Given the construction, propensity for traffic tie-ups (see last night and the HHS girls soccer semifinals) and holiday traffic on 75, might be a more enjoyable ride.

I don't know if this has been asked but does JC have many players go both ways. Conditioning seem's to always favor the Bird's late in games. Just curious if this will effect the outcome. I know the Bird's have a few but this hasn't bother them.

Teddy is the son of Ted Abner who played on the 81 & 82 State Championship teams. Why would you want to go anywhere else:thumb:

Is he any good?........:D

From the I-64/US 23 junction in Catlettsburg, all the way South to Paintsville, US 23 is 4-lane.

Road is very good and you will pass several docks along the Big Sandy, between Boyd to Johnson County. Travel time, will be approximately 1hr to Johnson Central High School.

Those traveling the Mountain Parkway, will find the road being 2/4 lane in areas. Yes there will be some curves and up/down hills. Either route of travel is fine.

Which way is faster???

Was that a FAT joke? If so, HEY! I resemble that remark!!

Which way is faster???
Either way, about 3hr trip. In the Grayson and Boyd County area, there is some construction going on. I really doubt much being active, after Thanksgiving.

If you want wide open, less turns - I-64 to Ashland

If you want wide open, curves - Mountain Parkway

I travel the Mtn. Parkway and don't have any problems.

Is he any good?........:D

Teddy is a FINE LB and plays with the heart of a lion! Not quite as fast as Roller but is very nimble in avoiding blockers and is a sure tackler! Now, If your talkin' Ted, Sr...well, let's just say "the Bear went over the mountain"! :D

Do they still have Jerry's Restaraunts in Paintsville?

Jerry's is in Prestonsburg. If you're staying until Saturday morning, it's worth the drive (12 mi.) to P-burg to eat breakfast there. The "husky breakfast" is AWESOME...

Emotion plus a good team will carry JC into the third quarter and keep this game close for awhile. Birds will find a way to win in the fourth quarter. If by some chance the game is not close, that's bad news for the locals.

Which way is faster???

The mountain Parkway is a lot faster.:thumb:
