Highlands Linebacker core better be ready to tackle' date=' they're going to get plenty of action this week. Looks like #17 Abner, will be playing the outside linebacker for the Birds. He's a good size player and has a family history of Bluebird athletes.[/quote Is he the son of Ken, Jim , or Ted?[b'] Does anyone leave Ft. Thomas:confused:

Teddy is the son of Ted Abner who played on the 81 & 82 State Championship teams. Why would you want to go anywhere else:thumb:

I'd say the majority of the HHS posters, such as myself, who are predicting a HHS win have seen them. I've personally seen JC first hand. (Last week against CCH)

But I agree that it is tough to really get a gauge as to how much speed Highlands has until you are actually on the field with them. JC will be considerably bigger than our Birds but they will have no where near the team speed needed to cause HHS fits. They have a few fast skill players but I don't think any compare to Crawford or Collinsworth.

I agree with these posts. Highlands may be the fastest TEAM I have seen in quite a while. They aren't big because they focus so much on speed. Their biggest players are on the sideline watching the speed guys, including linemen, run circles around everyone. I believe at the end of the playoffs, everyone will be wondering how Bryan Station was able to put that scare into them.

No disrespect, but I'd guess that there are less than 10 Highlands posters that have actually seen JC play this year. I know of only 5 Highlands fans that have and that includes you and me (and of the 5 that I am aware of, 2 of them don't post on here). So I think its say to say that a large majority of Highlands posters predicting a Highlands win have NOT seen Central first hand. Perhaps I'm wrong and a lot of Highlands posters have seen Central play this year, but I don't think I am.

This game is going to be very close. I'll take a one point win in a NY heartbeat without the least bit of disappointment (unlike the BS game).

And I do agree with you that JC does have some fast skilled players. Dillon, Welch and Richardson come to mind quickly. No. 1 and No. 5 (sorry, don't know their names) also have very good speed and if given a seam with our defenders out of position just a little, can take it to the house right now.

And I like how Matney puts his skilled players in a position to utilize their talents. Welch touches the ball from the backfield, from TE and from the wing. He passes the ball from the TE spot (I'd never seen a tight end aroung pass thrown before the Montgomery game) and catches the ball from all kinds of different positions. Matney is a very crafty and innovative coach. I loved seeing the overbalanced O line which seemed to confuse CovCath early on. When CovCath adjusted to Central running to the strong side, Matney started to run with great success to the short side and utilized the blockers in the backfield to exploit CovCath's shift to the strong side. Just brilliant coaching by Matney. Heck, he even tried the double flea flicker pass against CovCath. :scared: which I'm sure was for the benefit of the Highlands scouts in the stands.

I hope these predictions of a big win caused by Highlands speed and our ability to shut down Central's one dimensional O are correct, but I don't think they are. It will be a close, make that very close game in mu opinion based on my observations of Central.

And I won't even point out that at least one of the Highlands people that accompanied me to watch Central play was so very, very wrong when he disagreed with me and predicted after that game that CovCath would beat Central. I wouldn't want to embarrass Silver Streaker like that. :D:D:D Sorry my friend, I just HAD to.

Fantastic and respectful post leatherneck....

I am not a JC fan, but I do know their program well, and have seen Matney coached teams pretty much every year over the past 15 years. Here is what Highlands can expect that you can't see on paper on game film:

1. (This is in no way my beliefs but what I would put money JC belives) Expect a team to come in with the biggest chip on their shoulder you have ever seen. Right now every player on JC's team has been drilled that they have no shot in this game from anyone outside of Paintsville... well make that half of Paintsville. That Highlands has advantages they do not have, that Highlands is overlooking them, that Highland has no respect for them. Friday JC is playing the best Highlands team of All-Time.

2. Expect JC players to believe that this game and season is their legacy. The 2006 team came short of cementing JC on the grand stage, but Friday they can prove they are ready to compete with anyone in the state in any year.

3. A quarter of the plays that Highlands has scouted and made the effort to plan for won't even come close to being used this week, additionally, another 6 or 7 plays that Highlands has not seen JC run will be integrated for this game.

People can say whatever they want about Jim Matney, but there is no denying the man's passion is football. He lives for Friday's like this and he has so much care for his players that they in turn live for Friday's such as this as well. Additionally, agree or disagree with things he says, you will not find a head coach better at motivating his team and playing the underdog card. JC may be 11-1, but they have been the underdog in all 12 games they have played in some way shape or form :D

IMO, Highlands is 4 TD's better than JC in terms of talent and championship experience. But, anything less than Highlands A game, coupled with homefield advantage, and JC's mindset as the underdog could potentially make this a very, very close game.

Yes, Teddy "The Bear" Abner filled in for injured Brandon Roller after Roller went out with his injury. Teddy did not disappoint Birds fans recording a Hugh 3rd down stop and a timely fumble recovery later in the game. Good to see this kid finally hit the field and contribute anyway he can. :thumb:

All is exactly what I was expecting this Friday. Thanks for the insight.:thumb:

Question to Johnson Central fans, is the stadium at the school or is it in a different location?

You know Jim's ways very well. Good post

The high school and middle school are on the same campus. The high school is north of the middle school and the football field is east of the high school, between the high school and Paint Creek. The football field is north of the baseball field.

I am sure Dale Mueller will be making adjustments and adding new wrinkles also. He is very good at that.
