9:50 TO GO...Looks like we are well on our way.

Hey 72birdman...your avatar looks interesting. Where can you purchase that book? I'm a History buff, & I also love sports history.

We played the Bluebirds twice when I played at Russell in the mid 80's. You guys (& Conner in 83) kept us out of the title game three years in a row.

For those predicting JC to win and score all these points on Highlands, my question still remains unanswered:

How many of you have actually seen Highlands play this year?

Johnson Central 65

Highlands 3

:laugh::laugh::rolleyes:

I know you like to TRY and get other posters fired up, but if there is a team in the COUNTRY good enough to beat Highlands 65-3...:scared:

I am sure their is, but not in KY.

You sure? Colerain was #8 in the country and only beat Highlands 33-18.

Is Colerain still in the top 10?

This is going to be a much closer game than some people are predicting.

For those saying JC will not be able to move the ball on the Birds simply because JC is too one dimensional, turn your memory banks back to 05 when a big, one dimensional running team called DeSales kicked our fannies up and down the field running the ball.

Rockcastle ran the ball down our throats in 02.

It can happen.

I expect JC to have some success running the ball. They are an exceptional running team. By far the best we'll have played this year other than Colerain (and that game didn't turn out too well for us). If every Highlands defender doesn't wrap tightly when he tackles this week and instead only throws a shoulder in, JC's runners are going to get serious yards after first contact and break some long gains. These boys run hard. They are the hardest running backs we've faced this year. Every body has to wrap and we have to gang tackle.

Because I expect JC to be able to move the ball at times, our O has to come out very focused and ready to execute on every possession. I expect JC to blitz a whole lot (particularly from the outside) to try and prevent Tony from getting time to throw the ball deep. Matney's a good coach and he saw what happened to Ashland when Tony was given all day to pass the ball. I expect him to do everything he can to prevent that from happening this week and that means blitz, blitz, blitz.

I hope the ref crew quickly gets in control of this game and sets the tone that late hits and shoving will not be tolerated from the get go or else things are going to spiral out of control quickly. This is going to be an emotional game with JC geeked up to gain respect by beating Highlands (I can hear Matney's pregame speech now) and prove to the state that hard nose running game teams can win State, and the Birds are going to come into town fired up to prove that they aren't intimidated by anyone and they can be just as physical as the E. Ky teams. I hope what happened in the Ashland game was not a precursor to this game. As Dale said repeatedly and rather loudly during the Ashland game, "just play football".

I'd put this team up against the 2002 or 2005 team any day, any time. Both of those teams carried an air of doom with them all season, always seemingly waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don't think the 2002 team ever recovered from the loss at Henry Clay. I know my confidence never recovered and I just hold up the fence. The 2005 team was an underachieving bunch that ran into a LexCath buzz-saw in the playoffs after narrowly escaping a tough Oldham County team in the regular season. Again, another year where you could see a bright spot in the future, but not in December of 2005. Yeah, it can happen, but I'd be a lot more shocked than I was in either 2002 or 2005.

I don't disagree that this year's Highlands defense is better than the defense on those two years. But how can you be so certain that JC isn't better than DeSales or Rockcastle at running the ball? Have you seen them live? Have you watched much tape on them?

That's a pretty bold statement right there. Maybe no one can shut them out, or hold them to three. But your telling me that there is no one in the country that can score 65 on them? Colerain was ranked #8 at the time and scored 33 points. That means in the nation there are still 7 teams to possibly score higher.

I know you like to TRY and get other posters fired up,

Good to see your sense of humor is still intact.

Count me as one of the fans who expects a very close game this Friday. The way JC dominated CCH was very impressive and I'm sure the HHS coaches and players took notice and respect what can happen if they don't stay focused and come ready to play. The loss of Roller will hurt but there are others ready and able to step in and contribute.

I'll be in Paintsville Thursday for the family feast, but will be in Raceland Friday for our game. I have predicted a win for HHS, but I do not expect it to be a large margin. I think that JC will have to throw the ball and that will be their Achilles heel. I am pulling for the Eagles, but I fear a blue storm rolling through the area may ruin the festivities Friday night.
