According to Mapquest, it takes three 3 hours 35 minutes. Add in any gas stops and it's like 3 hours 45 minutes. With that long of a trip, you're also more likely to stop and eat somewhere before the game.

 

I can tell you, it takes 20-25 minutes to get to Blue Ash from my house. We live about 6 minutes from the Levee.

 

 

That's averaging less than 60 mph, which shouldn't happen since it's 70 the whole way. It's only 210 miles, shouldn't be any reason to have to stop for gas. Most people would fill up before making such a trip.

I would like to see it moved to Lexington. However, like others have said, it won't happen until UK goes with the field turf and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Regardless of how far it is for anyone, it needs to be as centrally located as possible and BGreen is just as centrally located as Louisville is...I know from Paducah, it takes 3 1/2 hours to get to Louisville and about 2 1/2 to get to BGreen, so, the distance isn't that big a factor either way...Truthfully, Etown is probably the most central point within the state, but, for places that could handle the event, BG and LVille are basically the same...

I for one will gladly spend the gas money to travel to Louisville, especially if the outcome is the same as last year. So, don’t worry about my gas budget.

First of all, I think Papa Johns is just about a perfect venue for this event. Its not exactly "cozy" for high school football, but other than that, its great.

 

As somebody who drives from Pike County every year to Louisville (a little over 4 hrs for me) let me say that the location doesn't matter as much to me as the facilities.

 

I'm happy to drive another hour to Bowling Green for a state championship weekend. Whats another hour on top of 4? I can't feel sorry for the folks complaining about driving 3.5 hours, lol. Deal with it and make the best of it.

 

The thing that will make it not as good, as others have said, would be the loss of the Brown/Williamson area. If you are a fan that comes and watches one game and leaves, that would be no big deal. But if you like to come and watch all 6, having that area to warm up between games/halves is essential. Well worth the extra ticket price for those amenities.

 

Having 3 games in one day in brutal weather is really tough on fans/workers/volunteers. If they have a place, like the B/W where they can recharge and refuel, then it makes a long day much more fan friendly.

 

Night life? I don't think the KHSAA should even consider this. It is a secondary issue, not nearly as important as traffic, hotel, food, etc. to consider. Non issue IMO.

 

As far as other sports championships goes, and what cities host each, I don't think that should play into it either. They need to do what is best for FOOTBALL, period. If BG can host it well and meet the needs of the KHSAA both financially and venue related better than Louisville, then I have no problem with that decision.

 

I would love to see this become a bigger "event" and no matter what, all 6 games need to be played in one location. A 3 day showcase with 2 games each day would be ideal. That's what I'd really like to see, whether it be in Bowling Green, Louisville, or wherever.

I thoroughly enjoy both Louisville and BG, so I'm happy either way. If it does move to BG, 440 Main here I come!!

Moving the games to BG would be an excellent idea, IMO... then again i'm also in Glasgow! lol.

 

 

And as far as "What is there to do in BG?"... well... i've been to Louisville plenty of times.. and it's nothing to write home about. I dont see that being much of an issue.. especially for just two days.

Entitlement? Just find it odd that the largest city in the state, with the most student athletes, would not host 1 state title in the 20-30 events, male and female, the state has.

 

 

 

The entitlement argument works better when people form certain areas of the state feel they are entitled to funds from other areas of the state. :lol:

 

Maybe in a political discussion… But I sense from the Louisville posters in this thread that they feel entitled (en·ti·tle; to give a person or thing a title, right, or claim to something) to host the state championship game based on things that most others don’t agree with like location of the city, population and night life…

Also are the new facilities going to to include anything similias to the Brown and Williamson Club? That place caters to a ton of the people at the games and remember the weather issue, it is an excellent place to escape to, meet and greet old friends and enjoy meeting others.

 

The stadium will have a club level seating approximately 800. There is food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I would have to assume this would be available during these games.

Looks pretty sweet to me...This ought to answer the ones clammering for Louisville because of the Brown & Williamson Club...Seems to me like a non-issue now as BG would provide the same...
