Papa John's sucks...it's too open, it's quiet, and it's empty. I've coached there and it is like an open cofin to be in. Even when the 4 and 5A schools play it is deserted. The locker rooms are small and it is hell on earth if the weather is bad because of it's VERY open bowl style. WKU will provide bigger locker rooms, a nicer hospitality room, a closer feel to the game, a louder venue, and better protection against bad weather.

 

WKU is a long trip for most of your traditional powers, but it has been a long trip for most of us for plenty of years, now it's your turn.

Louisville>BG as far as night life goes. Food, Booze, Entertainment, and gentlemen's clubs are all soooo much better in the Ville. BG shuts down early too, like 11.

 

As far as game atmosphere BG may be better. Plus most of us hate having to see all that Cardinal crap everywhere.

Lets face it, if UK had a turf field so that it wouldn't get destroyed by all the games it would be there.

So I say we petition Lexington to build roughly a 15k-20k stadium with turf field for the games.

I would say the City of Louisville generates very little money from entertainment during the state final games. I would venture to guess 70% come for one day and drive home.

Actually, BG bars/clubs stay open till 2am...not to mention BG is a college town, with a university that is every bit as big as UofL...trust me, there is plenty to do in BG...and it would be easily argued that BG has FAR more places to eat at than Louisville within a 10 mile radius of the stadium.

Went to school @ WKU and there is a ton more to do in Louisville. Most of the weekends we would just goto Nashville.

For the fan or the player? I say neither. Players on the field aren't looking up in the stands and thinking, wow, there are a lot of empty seat here, they arethinking wow, we've made it here, letes finish it.

 

The whole intimate argument that people are pressing is irrevelant to the KHSAA and I just find it funny anyway.

 

Nothing worse than 3000 people being in Papa Johns IMO. It takes away from the entire atmosphere for all involved. Sure it has zero effect on the players as far as execution but having played in one a long time ago looking up and seeing nothing but empty seats takes some of the fun out of it.

I agree it is disheartening to see so many empty seats.

However, Louisville struggles to fill it for their games and they are a college team. So the kids shouldn't worry about it.

Would it be crazy to rotate the state finals between 4 locations? WKU, Murray State, Papa John, and Commonwealth? Mix it up a bit.

 

It's all based on the bid. Just as Lexington has secured the boys basketball finals with sponsor money. Bowling Green has done well to keep girls basketball. Applebee Park has stepped up for boys basesball in Lexington.

The main question for Papa John's is what does the Big East need to have from U of L. I don;t belive they want to lose the finals due to an every other year home game for U of L.

 

A top KHSAA rep explained to me the coaches overwelmingly want the games played on the first weekend of December and that the venue was not a consideration for the switch back.

 

It's about the coaches clinic, not the fans or student-athletes. Whatever generates the most profit for the KHSAA and provides them the ability to stage all 6 finals in one venue. Locker room size doesn't matter. Fans being covered doesn't matter. It's the sponsorships.

Well, if you are a student trying to pick out where you want to go to college, then you might consider those facts...

 

But we are talking about the HIGH SCHOOL Football Championships... what's the night life matter anyways? If it's that important to drink and have a joy good time after the games, then just sit at home, listen to the games on the radio, and drink until dawn. For me, I'll just run back home.. or if in Louisville, I'll grab a bite to eat in a nice resturant (which BG has PLENTY of) or I'll head back to the hotel room to rest after an eventful day.

How far is it from Louisville to Bowling Green? 1 1/2 hours?

 

People from Central/Louisville/NKY area should not be complaining about driving distance. Many from the west of the state drive 4 hours every season to the Ville for the finals. Only legit claims for driving distance should come from far Eastern Kentucky that get the shaft no matter what.

 

If you want to argue amenities and entertainment, fine. But with no more people that go to these games, Bowling Green has more than enough to accomodate.

None of the above is likely to be true, some of it may be a judgement...I played at WKU, and our locker rooms were very small as well. Having been in the locker rooms at the Pizza Box many, many times, we never ever cared about their size. Better protection from weather? Please, what a joke...

2 things....

 

1 - I played in U of L's stadium many times, and the empty seats never, EVER crossed our minds...so that's bunk

2 - the second part of your post has no business in this thread.

I knew about the Volleyball tourney at Ryle and Gray Middle and that won't happen again unless BOKC decides to bid on the games!

 

Not that I am doubting you at all SM but where and when did NKy host the golf outing?

 

I think the BOKC may bid on volleyball, IMO it would be a good fit for both parties. I'd also like to see the BOKC bid on the girls Sweet 16, but I'm swaying off task now.

 

To answer your question, Lassing Pointe in Boone County hosted the state tournament sometime around 2002. I may be wrong, but really think he course hosted, just not sure on the year.
