I like the idea of it being more intament with the smaller venue but overall HATE the idea! It's a special dream for kids to walk out into Papa John's Stadium on the turf of a big school to play for it all. Louisville is the most convenient place, has much more to do around the city and is a much nicer venue. It also has a place to go get warm for the fans if they spend a few more bucks. I've coached there too and it is an amazing feeling.

I think Western would probably be a better atmosphere but so would Eastern, Morehead etc. Western would be a terrible trip for somebody like Belfry. Reminds me of when I played in the final four and had to drive from Louisa to Mayfield! I think it was an 8 hour drive!!!!

I'm just curious. What is there to do in Louisville, other than the games the first weekend in December, that you can't do in BG?

 

Comparing EKU, Morehead, Murray, etc. to WKU's facilities is a joke. WKU's upgraded facilites are every bit as nice as either UK or UL. I think most of you are speaking of WKU's facilities and haven't even seen them.

You really think that the kids playing at PJS in a state championship would look at it any differently than kids playing at WKU in a state championship? We won state my senior year playing at WKU. Frankly, until this debate began on WKU, I couldn't have readily answered where we played when we won state. Where we played was, at least to me, a non issue. Thus I don't think playing at WKU will be any less of a dream for the kids. I really don't.

 

As for the nicer venue, we'll probably have to disagree on that also. From what I know about the renovations at WKU, they are top shelf and the fans and players, if the games move to WKU, will be very satisfied with the facilities. I will agree with you about the convenience issue for folks from eastern Kentucky. But again, aren't we talking about a one time inconvenience (well, a once a year inconvenience for those programs that go to state seemingly every year)? Serious question: how much longer drive will it be for you to go to BG than it is for you to go to Lville?

None of the above is likely to be true, some of it may be a judgement...I played at WKU, and our locker rooms were very small as well. Having been in the locker rooms at the Pizza Box many, many times, we never ever cared about their size. Better protection from weather? Please, what a joke...

They may not be the biggest or the best, but i'm sure they'll serve the purpose well. I'm sure they'll beat the rinky dink locker rooms that you've been it at Western.

Seems to me the people who don't want it moved are for selfish reasons, IE. "It's a longer drive for me." I care, the rest of the state has made 4 hr drives for years, get over it. Or "There's not as many bars." I care, if your motivation for going to the state game is Bars, that sounds like a you problem.

I do believe otherwise and I make it a practice to not kid myself. In my line of work, that's dangerous.

 

My older son that got a couple of opportunities to play in Paul Brown Stadium didn't think it was a big deal getting to play there. In talking to some of the players from last year's team that also got to play in PBS, they were not all that excited about getting to play there. Then again some may have.

 

It is probably a bigger deal for the kids that attend high schools in Louisville and are UL fans to get to play in Papa Johns than it is for a vast majority of the kids playing throughout the state. When you are playing for a state championship I personally doubt that the large majority of kids care one iota where the game is played. But I may be wrong; then again, you may be wrong also. :thumb:

Unless you are in far Eastern Kentucky, how is this an argument? Luckily those in Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky do not complain about making a 4 hour trip every single year.
