Bronco99 speaks a lot of truth. I am close to the situation so I know what has and hasn't happened. All I will say is Coach did nothing wrong. Take it or leave it I am finished with this topic.

I find it hard to believe that nothing illegally was done then if Coach is accepting the two game suspension.

We can blame the whole mess on a "Mysterious Flooding of a rental property". Bet the KHSAA has heard that one before.

 

My understanding is that the house that they moved into, after leaving the flooded property, was one belonging to Coach Matney, or the address given to the KHSAA for this young man was Coach Matney's address.

 

Either way, it's all water under the bridge now. JCHS is not penalizing Coach Matney any further than the KHSAA two game suspension. The KHSAA has dealt their punishment and life will go on.

 

Whether it was a mistake or not, doesn't really matter. It doesn't compare to the impact Coach has had on the school and community and the turn around he has accomplished with the JCHS Football Program. He is a great coach and cares greatly about kids and that's really all that matters.

Well, I will agree and disagree with you. I agree that when violations are made the KHSAA should deal with the violators swiftly and harshly. However, when you say that J.C. was obviously wrong then I have to disagree with you. Just because the KHSAA fines you dosen't mean that you did something wrong it just means the KHSAA has the right to have an opinion stating they THINK you did something wrong. I am very very close to this situation and I know for a fact there was no recruiting violation regarding the young man in question. However, some higher-ups do not like Coach Matney so they had to look for some reason to harass the man and they USED a young man to go after the coach. Now, IMO that is a violation of ethics by the KHSAA. As adults we should be here for the kids and never use them as pawns and that is what happened here. The KHSAA messed up and costed this kid several football games and an entire wrestling season where he would have been a state finalist just to go after a coach that they don't care much for. I will say it again, they messed up and that is why the penalty was not so severe and that is why they didn't take the 8 football games the boy played in away from J.C. and why the young man will be eligable this summer and not 8 games into the season which would have happened if there really was a violation (think about it.........you all know i am right.........They messed up). It is a sad day when our kids are done this dirty and all we can think about is ourselves. With that being said, I think coaches,or programs or schools that recruit kids from other schools in any sport should be dealt with harshly. I also want everyone to know that I am not talking about private vs public issues here. I believe that the biggest percentage of private schools(just like public schools) do not go recruit players. I think parents of players seek these schools out because of the TOTAL advantages these schools can give to their children. As a parent myself, I will do everything in my power to give my children the greatest advatage possible, thats just the nature of being a good parent.

It said because Belfry didn't have a wrestling team, so he decided on JCHS instead because of their wrestling team.

 

This actually makes an interesting pointin some way:

 

To get from Belfry to Johnson Central you pass through the following schools districts.

 

Pike Central, Pikeville Independent, Betsy Layne, Prestonsburg.

 

True, none of these schools offer wrestling.

 

But isn't their a rule that stipulates a move cannot be for the purpose of athletics?

 

Any Pike County school offers a pretty good education reputation, and Pikeville actually scores higher than JC in testing.

As has been stated before nothing illegall has happened. Coach Matney accepted the two game suspension due to the fact tha he figured why waste his time fighting it. You cant win against the KHSAA. We've tried it. They do what they want whether its justice or not!

 

And your wrong once more. The Family moved into some appartments after the house flooded. The house was prevousily owned by Matney. But was Sold on a land contract to a long time friend of they family. The address turned in on the wavier form was in no way Matney's address.
