I am not getting back into this whole thing again. So, I will say this; it was someone other than the young man's indiscetions. None of the decisions in regards to this whole ordeal were made by this young man. Hopefully everyone can agree that he got an opportunity taken from him for no fault of his own!

We all understand that. Kids are subject to their parent's decisions. It may not seem fair, but where do you draw the line when parents make a move that ends up being detrimental to the kid's wishes (sports eligibility in this case)?

Are there any chance the coach losing his job over this!

If it was a parent then how would you have penalized this "indiscretion"? If it was a school official do you just let them take a slap on the wrist and then go about business.

 

I thought that people on the public school side wanted tougher enforcement of rules.

Again? No one has gotten into anything specific. You, however, have made some accusations that should be backed up with some facts.

I have yet to read anything from anyone that blames the kid for his situation. His family, however, may have made some decisions that helped put his eligibility in question.

He was out with an injury the year before. We had him picked to be in the to 10 as a freshmen but he injured his shoulder half way through the season which ended his freshmen year. He was undefeated his 8th grade year in Ky winning the state at 185, He won an 8th grade national tournament in Winston Salem NC and wrestled for team KY in the National Duals where he lost his ony 2 matches of the year and won 5 or 6 matches and was named to the all tournament team which I believe he is the only middle school wrestler from Ky to earn the all tournament team hounors at the Middle School State Duals. With all of that I would have to say yes, i think he would have had a shot at the finals, not saying that he would have definately made it because we all know there is no definates in wrestling or any sport for that matter. Again this is my opinion and I am not trying to get anyone to agree with me.

If the parents made a legitimate move, and followed the procedure to get a waiver for eligibility, I doubt there would have been a problem.

 

If the parents or school failed to do the right thing (either by falsifying records, or failure to follow the procedure either by choice or lack of knowledge), I feel sorry for the student. But anyone (adult or student) changing schools in this day and time would have to have been living under a rock to not know their are rules about eligibility.

True that! The kid did wrestle over the summer in Virginia Beach were he wrestled top high school kids from several states and only lost one time by one point. Again, none of what I have said means he would have definately made the finals, that is just my opinion!

The family moved from one residence to another with in Johnson County after the waiver was granted (because of flooding damage) and failed to notify KHSAA. While checking on a different situation found that this family didn't live at the first residence which was listed on the transfer form. In hind-site the family would have notified the Khsaa of the move and this kid would have been eligible all season.

What is the rest of the story - I know you post later that KHSAA found he was living in a different address than listed on the originial request for waiver - that in and of itself should not be a problem. Did he ever live in the address on the original waiver, is the new address still within the JC school district, does the family still own the property in the previous (before JC) school district - what is the rest of the story?
