For the record, I don't think that there's anything amiss. I just found it interesting, is all. I honestly didn't know he was the coach of both sports. Seriously...just something I found interesting. I didn't mean to imply anything otherwise.

No kidding I went to the Johnson Central Hosted Middle School state wrestling Tourney this week. Talk about eye opening. Alot of thin line walking involved with those club teams. Kids from Johnson Central Wrestling team being coaches by JC coaches, Kids From Johnson County wrestling club being coached by JC coaches? Trinity and St. X elementary wrestling teams?

2C, Johnson County Elementary Wrestling won the Elementary state wrestling tournament yesterday.

The Johnson Central football program has been penalized and placed on probation for the 2008-09 school year. The program was found to have violated KHSAA recruitment and transfer rules (Bylaws 4 & 10).

 

The KHSAA also suspended Head Coach Jim Matney for the first two regular season contests of the 2008 season. As part of the ruling, the school was fined $1,000 and required to pay $1,500 in restitution for the cost of the investigation.

To get from Belfry to Johnson Central you pass through the following schools districts.

 

Pike Central, Pikeville Independent, Betsy Layne, Prestonsburg.

 

True, none of these schools offer wrestling.

 

But isn't their a rule that stipulates a move cannot be for the purpose of athletics?

 

Any Pike County school offers a pretty good education reputation, and Pikeville actually scores higher than JC in testing.

I am glad to hear that all Pike Schools offer a good education. Pikeville scores higher than JC in testing because they should. What JC is doing on the part of Education is really a great accomplishment. Private schools who give entrance exams and all that should score higher IMO because they have some of the better students or they wouldn't be at the school without a lot of red tape the publics have. The Ind. school district is much on the same line. They have the students within the boundaries and then pick and choose between the best and brightest students from within the county school system. JC is educating ALL students within their boundaries and must take any and all. I think with such a large pop. and all students regardless they are doing great things. JMO.

The word in JC from a parent of a football player is that they also played a kid that was too old? Not sure what is true but the parent was helping with the elementary wrestling tourney said they got in trouble over a kid that was 19.

That is good to hear, That is something that should be checked by coach, AD, and The KHSAA before season begins. This parent could have been misinformed I think Bylaw 10 deals with this issue.

Yes there is. It was held at Johnson Central 3-1-08.

It was the largest wrestling meet ever held in Kentucky at any level by number of matches (over 1200) and number of wrestlers (over 640).

The move itself was not for athletic purposes. As a parent, if I decide to move I am going to chose a school that offeres everything for my child including the sports they play. Many schools in KY does not have soccer just like many do not have a wrestling team so those things come into play for a parent with athletic kids who are moving. It is actually common sense. Just because this family chose J.C school system because it offered all the sports that their kids were involved in dosen't mean that was the reason they moved(sports didn't even influence the decision to move or not) and to say the decision to move into Eastern KY had anything to do with sports is just plain ignorant! I hope this clarified things for you!
