On an aside...does Sheldon Clark still offer wrestling since Matney left?

 

Yes they do and no I don't know why they moved to JC instead of SC. As it seems that I may in fact be stepping on some higher up toes, this will be my last post on this subject. I have always been known to speak my mind and I have always put the kids best interest first when making decisions that deal with the kids. That is why I get frustrated when kids such as this kid gets the raw end of the deal when he did absolutly nothing wrong. All I can say is I am glad that he will be back in action this summer and we all can watch him play football and wrestle in the 2008-09 season. Buy the way, I think I may be moving to Johnson County by the end of April because of my job so I will get to watch him play a lot!

Yes they do, and they have still been successful. This year they had 4 state placers. Josh Muncy (2001 SCHS Grad and 2001 189 lbs. state champ) is now the wrestling coach. He is assisted by his brother Dan Muncy (2004 SCHS grad and 2004 160 lbs. state champ).

Why all the smoke and mirrors associated with this KHSAA violation? Westsider has requested this information since the story was first published on 2/26/08, but for whatever reason those who claim to be in the know refuse to answer the specifics of the question. Before forming any judgement, it would behoove all of us to be informed of the EXACT ACCUSATIONS AND THE EXACT KHSAA FINDINGS that led to the punishment. Come on...someone step forward and dot the "i" and cross the "t". :irked:

I just told you for a FACT that no one at Johnson Central had any influence or anything to do with this family moving there. I am not guessing on this..............I know it for a fact! So, when I say stupidity of adults I am in no way meaning any one involved with J.C. athletic program. All of us in McCreary County would be the first to accuse J.C, their coach and athletic department if they had done something wrong. Everyone wants so bad to find fault in Johnson County and I am telling you that with this young man and his family they did (for a fact) nothing wrong (no violations). So get over it and try to find something else they did wrong.

I didn't accuse anyone of anything ... I would simply like to know the facts of the case. But common sense dictates that, considering the penalties handed down by the KHSAA and accepted by Johnson Central and Jim Matney, there is more to it than you're disclosing.

Speaks even more volumes about Matney's ability to coach wrestling. For that program to continue to thrive after his departure, means he really did a good job of laying some groundwork.

The KHSAA messed up and costed this kid several football games and an entire wrestling season where he would have been a state finalist just to go after a coach that they don't care much for.

It is an opinionated point isn't it. You have yours and I have mine but we will never know who is wrght or wrong because the opportunity was taken away from him for someone else's indiscretions.

What is amazing to me is that it is not even a blip on the radar in the Lexington Herald. They were all over the private school violations.

I think the LHL goes with what sells in the Lexington area.

Two reasons the Herald-Leader jumped on the Lexington Christian story:

 

1. It's local. Lexington Christian is in the heart of their coverage area.

 

2. Lexington Christian's all-around athletic program has become one of the best in the state, with recent state titles in baseball and girls' basketball. And the football team, which apparently has some key players tied to the financial aid situation that was the subject of the investigation, just made the state championship game.

I agree that he had his opportunity taken away from him, but to say a kid who did not even make the state tournament the year before would have been in the state finals the next year is a pretty big stretch. Anyone who follows Kentucky wrestling would agree.

He was out with an injury the year before. We had him picked to be in the to 10 as a freshmen but he injured his shoulder half way through the season which ended his freshmen year. He was undefeated his 8th grade year in Ky winning the state at 185, He won an 8th grade national tournament in Winston Salem NC and wrestled for team KY in the National Duals where he lost his ony 2 matches of the year and won 5 or 6 matches and was named to the all tournament team which I believe he is the only middle school wrestler from Ky to earn the all tournament team hounors at the Middle School State Duals. With all of that I would have to say yes, i think he would have had a shot at the finals, not saying that he would have definately made it because we all know there is no definates in wrestling or any sport for that matter. Again this is my opinion and I am not trying to get anyone to agree with me.
