Honestly, how many games did or will Griffey and Dunn's speed in the outfield cost the Reds?

No way it's more than two a season...

Or the basepaths? You really don't want to go back and rehash the base running blunders these two have had do you? 2 how'd you come up with that number?

No need to turn this thread into another Dunn or Don't thread. BUT as we saw the last week of the season, without Griffey and Dunn, the Reds score about 2 runs a game, maybe 3 if they face bad pitching.

So with Griffey gone, they almost have to keep Dunn just to have some kind of pop in the order. I just don't like Dunn doing the little things to win games, no need to mention his defense, it just seems like he is an all or nothing guy. Yes, he tends to get a lot of walks, but if there is a runner on 2nd with 1 or 2 outs, if he doesn't get a home run, he doesn't get them to 3rd base. That just bothers me.

Common sense. :p

It's absurd to think that the 1-2 balls a game (at the very, very most) that they take an extra step or two pick up are going to affect very many games negatively. Same for baserunning. While there's a chance that they may cost them a run here and there, no way are they costing them very many games.

Baseball's WAY too long of a game for an extra step here or there to literally cost you a game. IMO, this is really, really far down the list of problems with this team...

So your telling me in 06 when they were a game back or tied with the cards in august that was not a choke?

They went from 1st in august to 3rd in sept and completly out of it.

You mean the year they lost it to the team that won the World Series?

Were they supposed to be in 1st? It's not like you're talking about a pre-season favorite to win it all, much less the division.

With that theory, everyone that is in first place at some point chokes. Everyone knew that pitching would prevail, hence St. Louis winning the division.

No, that wasn't a choke, it was Tubby's fault, if only he had gotten Loften.

Everyone had that marathon road trip circled on their calender at the beginning of the year. As the Reds continued to stay in the race, everyone figured that trip was a make or break for them.

They were a game out of the division and a 2 or 3 game lead in the wild card going into the last week of August. Everything that could have went wrong, did go wrong on that trip. Pitching, defense, poor execution, you name it, EVERYONE failed. Can't really call it a choke, cause they played decent baseball the rest of September, but that trip put them behind the 8 ball and they just couldn't recover.

In august in 1st place and fall to 3rd yes thats a choke.

The cards finished 83-79 and stumbled into the playoffs. They gave the Reds/Astros every oppertunity possible to take the division.

The cards in 06 got hot at the right time thats why they won.

That pitching your talking about for the cards didnt show up till the playoffs and Carpenter(along with the rest of the staff) where terrible in sept.

It's not like the cards ran away with division

So yes they did choke.
