That is what puzzles me about a team that won 6 of 7 and 18 championships to have such a chip on their shoulder? Come on who cares what is quoted? Not many if any X fans on here said that it would not be a close game. The only thing that bothered me is that Trinity is not the school anymore that many of my close friends went to in late 80's and early 90's when they 3 peated with class. The students running up to players from X and to the X student section and flipping the bird and yelling curse words at them showed me just what their school has become. If winning is all that matters than you have what you want. If X had pulled this one out you would not have seen that. There was even a dad of a certain Trinity star that was shouting and running his mouth to X kids as they kneeled down and cried. Grow up man you have a championship ring of your own. Congrats to Trinity for capitalizing when they had to. Congrats to Bean and Coverdale for well called games. X will be just fine as their foundation is built on solid ground and many things matter as much such as pride, zeal, humanity, compassion and many other things.

As far as you comments about T kids behavior after the game. I saw some of that and it sickened me. I am sorry for the actions of a few in a heated rivalry. Felt bad for your kids - just as I would have for ours had it turned out the other way. That's no excuse. I don't think it is what T is all about. Sorry it happened. YOu have to win and loose with class.

I'll agree that it is time to get off of whatever Mike Glaser had to say. The story of the game is about a group of courageous young men that were taught by an outstanding group of coaches that the response to adversity is to persevere. They were taught that the solution to a loss is to face it head on and figure out how to get better. That is the story of this team and the Bob Beatty era. Look at the game video on the CJ website. It shows the passion, emotion and love that Coach Beatty brings to his job. Well done guys.

My earlier post about Glaser's quote was just too inconvenient, eh? I mean, I was right there and heard the question.

I like that name....THE UMBRELLA....I don't think I'll ever call him anything other than that again.

 

Let's rehash an old conversation....how long is second fiddle going to be good enough for the Xaverians..they didn't like that we had a new stadium, they built a new one, we have way more state championships...and we own this decade....I know that there have to be those of the X faithful that have to be boiling inside in regards to a school that has half the money, half the property, half the tenure, half the alum...but almost double the championships....

 

Now you're stretching the truth a bit, aren't you? If I recall correctly, you guys had a tiny little property and started buying Cadillac and everything else trying to get bigger. Did X fan say you were trying to catch up with us? No, we all assumed it was a good business decision.

 

Why is it all the fans on here saying Glaser is not classy...sound kinda classless in the way they are doing it. I didn't see a lot of X fans on here asking for it, but do see a lot of T fans dishing it out.

 

Honestly, I think X needs to do what you guys did. Realize that we don't have any good coaches at the school, like Trinity did, and go out and hire a hired gun like Beatty with a big rep. I been thinking it was time for a change since about '85, but never want a coach fired who does so many other things right - other than beat Trinity in the playoffs.

 

I'm not worked up over his comments. Those who are, I guess you also believe that Syracuse, Utah, Kentucky, WVU, UConn and USF have better QB's than Brian Brohm, because after all, they beat him fair and square. (Maybe UConn wasn't fair and square, but you get the point) Personally, I still think he's the best I've ever seen. And sometimes the best don't win, and that's life. But the best coach certainly did win last night, that much is certain.

You hit the bullseye dead center. They are grabbing for straws already. Rain, injuries, bad spots, fumbles, asthma, etc,etc,etc. It's kind of sad in a way.

 

 

I spoke with someone in the booth last night who watched the vid, it was a fumble (without a facemask, don't know where that came from) but I haven't seen a lot of complaining about it, other than pre-emptive strikes from Trinity fan. It's what it is, there were 20 bads calls in every game this weekend. Some more important than others. The worst call was still not kicking the FG.

 

Vic does have asthma, as do I, and I'll just assume you don't based on that ignorant comment.

Great game, I hope my brother-in-law taped the games for me.

That kind of behavior does not represent 99.9% of the Trinity I know. I hope those involved are diciplined. I am saddened by hearing of this.

With regard to Coach G. I think it is time we pull off and let up. Let it be. Several of us (as we celebrated again at Marshall late last night -after another State Championship) discussed in all seriousness - starting a Fund Raising drive to send over to X -for a salary supplement. We certainly don't want any changes in the Head Coaching position. WE like him. We want him to stay - forever.

Another one for the vaults. As expected, Trinity and St. Xavier got together and put on a show for all of us lucky enough to be in attendance. A couple notes:

 

1) I'd never been up in the Brown and Williamson Club before... now THAT'S the way to watch a state game. The T and X fans were all mixed together up there which seemed to prevent most people from saying anything they'd regret later. It's where I'll likely watch state games from now on.

 

2) I sat near a group of guys that sang the fight song after every Trinity score. It was impossible not to join in, and suffice it to say that I'll be joining them in song next season.

 

3) What can you say about Tim Phillips? His ability to elude defenders continutes to astound me. Am I correct in thinking that both he and X's Deuce Finch will be seniors next year?

 

4) Another great season for both teams. I'm already looking forward to next year.

JR, Iwent through this with my sons in 2000. Tell them that it will get better. It just takes time. After a while, the memories of friendships will begin to overcome the pain of the last game. God bless.

This was an emotional battle for everyone involved. This is a long and storied rivalry between these two great teams. In the Louisville community, this is practically a civil war. But the game has been played and a winner determined. We don't need personal remarks or the insults against each other's team and/or coach.

 

As we discuss this great game, everyone needs to keep in mind BGP rule #2. This rule states (in part): No disparaging, taunting, or boastful comments--especially between opponents trying to intimidate each other. This includes name calling or personal attacks toward any member, username, or school. Also, keeping in mind the youth of our student athletes, excessive "bashing" is prohibited in the high school forums.

 

Some posts in this thread have flirted with breaking this important rule. Please keep your remarks within the rules so that we can have an enjoyable discussion of the game.
