^ I suppose if you need to try for 2 points that helps a bit, but overall they should look at that rule. It's almost a ticket for a free shot at somebody with little recourse.

After watching the game last night I take back my comment on several facemask calls being missed on Phillips. I thought there were 3 blatant yanks not called, there was just one. I honestly could not tell on the infamous fumble, I think an earlier post said it best that the replay was not conclusive to overturn the call. I thought the spotting gods favored the Tigers on 2 bigs plays. Couple questions though, was the personal foul on the T touchdown just a 1.5 yard penalty on the xp kick and not on the kickoff? That doesn't sound like a good rule - not very punative for a late hit, etc. Next question, was Finch hurting in the second half? I was surprised he didn't see the ball more. The other rbs were not nearly as effective. The fake punt call was brilliant. The halfback pass was not. T did not play the perfect game, but it was close enough.

 

Let me fill all of you on the halfback pass. AK has completed that pass everytime we've thrown it and my Favorite wide receiver was salivating that Trinity had changed their defense to a cover 2 with 2 safeties in the middle of the field. X had already hit 2 TD's to the outside. On the halfback pass, X had the outside receiver 10-15 yards past the T DB who bit on the sweep. AK had always taken off his glove in the previous games but kept it on for this play so to not tip it off. Needless to say with the misting rain came moisture and the pass flew off like a helicopter and eventually picked off in the middle of the field. Another X missed opportunity but it showed that whether it was the halfback pass or the 4th and 1, X was playing to win. Should they run Deuce around end 20 more times? Looking back you can say that but with Deuce's knee and Zoeller's cramps, maybe it was the best call.

I missed that fumble. I watched the replay and couldn't find it. I did see a play where the officials on the spot made a call that the replay doesn't refute.

 

IMHO, and with the luxury of replay, I see Phillips flipped over on to an X player and the momentum of the flip shoots the ball 15 yards into the end zone. If you think he is down at some point, you are entitled to your opinion. I don't see his knee, shoulder, etc touch the ground ( not the St X player) until the ball is out. I think that is is against the laws of nature and science for a ball to contact the ground( TV announcer said ground can't cause the fumble and then changed his mind when he saw it) and then go forward 15 yards. My belief is the angular momentum from being flipped put the force on the ball.

Please do not defend a sweep pass call on third and fifteen when a medium gainer would put you in field goal range. Sweep pass works in a running situation, and only when you are getting a zone corner to bite. Coaches make bad calls at times, and that was a bad call.

It is appropriate and commendable to play to win.

Whether or not the HB pass was the right call, it was the poor execution, the bane of high school coaches, that doomed the play. I would tell the kid who threw the ball not to feel bad at all. I daresay every player on that field at one time or another did not execute up to the standards expected of him, whether the casual fan observed it or not. Trinity poorly executed on the Deuce's 30-yard run, for instance. Offensive lineman missed their blocks. The list goes on and on. Everyone makes mistakes. That's part of life.

I checked my source who was a coach on that freshman team in 04 and he said that the score was 17-7 with 51 seconds left and Trinity R/B sweeps left and he said that a St.X player " Carpenter" I think he said, just took the ball away from the r/b and ran to the endzone for a T-D, great play he said. Then T takes the kick off and on first offensive series, a pass to w/r who fumbles running down the sideline after catching the pass. Then St. X recovers fumble and scores a T/D to win 21-17, that his story and he is sticking with it, really dosen't make any differemce though it is history, I was just curious about it.

The 07 game was a great game by all, but i have two questions, why not kick a field-goal on fourth down instead of taking a chance of fumbling, which is what did happen to the Tigers.

My second question is for the Rocks, why not let the first half run out and go into halftime tied?
