Back to the game- do the T faithful think running a shotgun QB draw from the endzone after the goal line stand was the best call? It seems like T likes to do that and Stein was marked at the 6 inch line for a 2.9 yard loss.

By the way, kudos to both defensive coordinators for adjustments at halftime.

You have to dance with what brung ya. I remember Bob Beatty when he was first hired. He said, "We won't be afraid. We'll throw it from the two going in and we'll throw it from the two coming out." Seems to have worked pretty well for him.

I do not think the QB draw was a "bad" call. Just good defense by X on the play. I thought the ball was at the 7 inch line though for only a 2.85 yard loss. I am getting old though and my eyes play tricks on me sometimes. I think later in the game the qb draw gained some decent yards at the other end of the field.

Back to Saturday- I watched the last drive again. Man it's painful to do it. 3 things I saw that I didn't catch. One-first play of final drive. I actually defended T's offensive line for shifting since they did not go down in a 3 point to widen stance on Phillips run. But I didn't realize that Dutton went in motion. Illegal shift- 5 yard penalty. Two D J Hall came on a safety blitz and Stein did a great job to get the ball off to Neagli before Hall got there. Three Nothing can be done now BUT- ball is clearly out on Phillips fumble. End of story. Touchback. Game over. No if's ands and buts. Different outcome. No shirts.

 

I can't let that be the last word. The ball was NOT clearly out. I've watched it over and over in stop action and slow motion. It was not clearly out. What was very clear is that Trinity should have had first and goal from inside the two on the previous possesion after Phillips helmet was ripped off by the face mask. Now I'll be glad to leave the officiating alone. All in all I thought they did a pretty good job.

Talk about bad bounces. What about the 6 fumbles X had, 5 of which they recovered. I mean how lucky is that? Just think if one of those bounces another way, Trinity wins this game in regulation, right? Maybe we'll get the bounces one year...

When is the last time Trinity truly beat St. X?

 

2007: Bad call on Phillips fumble.

2006: Rain shortened game.

2005: Bad spot on Victor's 4th down run.

2003 State Finals: Bad call on fumble near sideline.
