I checked my source who was a coach on that freshman team in 04 and he said that the score was 17-7 with 51 seconds left and Trinity R/B sweeps left and he said that a St.X player " Carpenter" I think he said, just took the ball away from the r/b and ran to the endzone for a T-D, great play he said. Then T takes the kick off and on first offensive series, a pass to w/r who fumbles running down the sideline after catching the pass. Then St. X recovers fumble and scores a T/D to win 21-17, that his story and he is sticking with it, really dosen't make any differemce though it is history, I was just curious about it.

The 07 game was a great game by all, but i have two questions, why not kick a field-goal on fourth down instead of taking a chance of fumbling, which is what did happen to the Tigers.

My second question is for the Rocks, why not let the first half run out and go into halftime tied?

 

Look, we're all monday morning geniuses...I'm one of the best.:lol: T running a play instead of letting the clock run out....that's just not their style. They have confidence in their offense and rightfully so. It looked like the snap hit off the center's leg or it slipped out of his hand. He probably snaps 99 out of 100 in the vicinity of Stein's hands. Freak occurrence, who'd thunk it? I've already spoken in support of X going for it on 4th down instead of kicking the field goal. The way T's offense clicked in the first half( 3 TD's) it seemed likely they could punch in at least 2TD's in the second half. How many chances in the game do you get to score a TD from 1yd. out?

I think I tend to agree with you. I do not necessarily believe it was a bad or the wrong call. You have one of the two best rb's (and many consider him THE BEST RB) in the state, a hell of a running qb, a tremendous O line, it is not beyond reason that you could pick that up. If so - ballgame - IMHO

My sources tell me that the 7 was painted over last night and the 8 in "18" will be going up today pending weather.

I really do not find fault with the call on 4 and 1 to run the ball. Trinity had not stopped the running game all night and really it was a higher percentage play in my book then the kick. easy to second guess at this stage but for me not a bad call on the part of X. It could be said that T had some bone head calls as well. Up 21-14 after the recovery by T we go for the endzone which I like but then make some not so good calls to at least be in FG range. The call before half to not sit on the ball could also come in to question. Having said all of this the game played out as it was going to given the calls made and how the plays were exacuted. Both coaches made good and bad calls as did the officials. The kids on both sides played a game for the ages. I am sorry that the kids at X had to lose the game they played so very well but at the same time I am just as happy for my boys at T. Great season for a lot of schools this year our first in the new format. I look forward to the new season and all the hipe it will bring. Happy holidays and a Merry Christmas to all.

Story is it came down to the last minute, at least your sources say that. 4 years later, it comes down to the last minute. Are you telling me that maybe thiere isn't that much difference in coaching?

A little light, I thought, for a T-X championship, but considering the weather I guess it wasn't too bad.

Please do not defend a sweep pass call on third and fifteen when a medium gainer would put you in field goal range. Sweep pass works in a running situation, and only when you are getting a zone corner to bite. Coaches make bad calls at times, and that was a bad call.

I guess I am able to somewhat understand the historical irony - but why are we "arguing" over what took place in a Freshman game 4 years ago ? They were 'babies" then - now they are men. I don't get it. Have we run out of things to say about Saturday night ?

Back to Saturday- I watched the last drive again. Man it's painful to do it. 3 things I saw that I didn't catch. One-first play of final drive. I actually defended T's offensive line for shifting since they did not go down in a 3 point to widen stance on Phillips run. But I didn't realize that Dutton went in motion. Illegal shift- 5 yard penalty. Two D J Hall came on a safety blitz and Stein did a great job to get the ball off to Neagli before Hall got there. Three Nothing can be done now BUT- ball is clearly out on Phillips fumble. End of story. Touchback. Game over. No if's ands and buts. Different outcome. No shirts.

Looks like from reading some of these posts, once again X has been robbed of what is rightfully theirs. Maybe someday the weather, officiating, injuries, etc, etc, will all align for them again.

As I rewatched it - I saw some missed calls as well - on both sides. How great to have that hindsight vision - vantage point - and the luxury of time to be able to carefully analyze. I think we had a outstanding officiating crew. Impossible to catch and call every infraction. "You have to see the entire play." There are probably several things -either way -which very well might have affected the final outcome - either way. That is part of it. It is what it is.

 

Again - great game. Tremendous season for both Teams. A game for the ages. Glad we could be there to witness.

Then quit bringing it up...you keep saying nothing can be done...yet you keep bringing it up...on play doesn't change the outcome of a game....and you conveniently leave out the 57 some-odd plays that X ran, do you honestly feel they went without a hitch, and that all was called perfectly on that side as well. You are honestly doing your son, and the Xaverian team a dis-service by belittling the officiating and the overall quality of the game played Saturday night....Congrats Rocks and Tigers, good luck next year.
