October 29, 200718 yr What do you do if your bill is over $10 or $12? Never is If I am going to a "sit-down" restaurant it is because I am having a business meeting with several "associates". After the meal is over we all get together and decide on a gross amount and divide it in half. We leave half on the table, and one of us will go to the counter and make sure we give half to the cooks. I have known MANY restaurants where the cooks make somewhere in the range of $3-$5 an hour and never get tips (if they do they are way under what they are supposed to). I have an unusual method, but I rarely go to sit down restaurants. With dates, I throw my philosophy out the window and usually give $10. I like round numbers because I am crappy at math. As a side-note, if the service is terrible you get nothing. There is no reward for terrible service.

October 29, 200718 yr How much, if any, do those of you who use Car Washes tip? I give a $5 to whomever gives me the "we're done" look. On a related note, when valet parking, I tip $20 in advance and ask them to keep it close. I've had many friends that were valets and have heard horror stories about what they do to cars that don't tip in advance. Plus, you don't get it parked in some far away lot and have to wait forever to get it back.

October 29, 200718 yr No not shame on me. I'm sorry, but I dont make the kind of money to be giving it all to a Server or Waiter. I hate to hear that some only make 2 dollars a hour, but if your that desperate for money, Mcdonalds is hiring for 6 bucks an hour. Maybe someday when I get that big job i've been waiting for. But for right now, i'm throwing down a 5. If more people had your philosophy the menu items would all go up about $4-5 do you get the point?
October 29, 200718 yr Dude, married with 3 kids and have a crappy job. Here's my suggestion...tip or cook. The only fortunate thing is that if you tip bad and someone remembers, you'll be getting a LOT more than you pay for next time around. Not quite the bargain I'm looking for... While we're at it....people with "rowdy" "non-listening" kids...cough cough . . . should also tip more for the server having to clean after their careless parents.
October 29, 200718 yr I eat well and tip better. Like many have already stated, 20% of the bill (adding back discounted meals/beverages) is a beginning point. Bad service WILL drop that but never below 15%. Great service definitely increases the % with the sky being the limit. If it's great service from a hot babe, I just open my wallet and tell her to take whatever she wants.
October 29, 200718 yr For the record, $5.00 would be 15% on a $33.33 bill. I have to say, unless I was paying for more than one person, I don't remember ever seeing a bill that high. Of course, I don't hang out at those fancy French places that Sticky and RP frequent. Hey . . . :irked: they are Italian...

After allowing them to run around unsupervised at a ballgame, a nice sit down dinner is great to catch up on things...
October 29, 200718 yr Here is another question a bit off topic. Do you tip your barber/stylist? A lot of places seems like the cost of the haircut is something like $9 or $12. What do you tip, if you do?

October 29, 200718 yr I usually do 10-15% But at the local pub on Saturday I gave about 50%:jump:
