January 16, 201412 yr Never tipped my barber until my wife always told me she tipped her hairdresser. I usually tip my barber 3-5 bucks depending on my cashflow at the time. I never tipped them until my wife told me the same thing.
January 16, 201412 yr Barber….the only time I'm allowed to have a pretty girl, other than my wife, touch my head is when I get a haircut. So I go to Great Clips. I tip 20% always and will do the same at a restaurant unless the service is awful and they have attitude about it, then only 10%. Because we were servers back in college, both the wife and I treat them well. We like the "take care of the people that take care of you motto." We'll give the mailman a gift card at Christmas also. I was a waiter and pizza delivery driver so I always tip as well. I also hate when I am with people at a restaurant who are rude or mean to the waitress. Drives me nuts and then I'll usually leave a bigger tip as a way of saying sorry. Great, now I need to give the mailman a gift card and tip the Directv guy next time he has to fix my service. I feel like a chump now. I do tip furniture delivery guys.
January 16, 201412 yr Wife was waitress for a bit so I always over tip, but I travel for work a considerable bit and you learn to appreciate good restaraunt service. I never thought to tip Direct TV or the newspaper guy.

I asked them first if they were allowed to receive a tip & both said yes. After I gave them the money I asked them if they normally get tips. Both of them said usually not. I offered them both a $100 "tip" if they'd give me Lexington local channels instead of Cincinnati. They both said they'd love to, but could lose their jobs if they did so.
January 17, 201412 yr Depends on the location. Almost all of the resorts in Jamaica have no tipping policies... My honeymoon in Jamaica was like this as well did but you can tell some expect it when it's not out in the open. Bring a couple bucks for room service people.
January 17, 201412 yr I gave the guys $20. Just for the record I asked if they normally receive tips and they said about 25% of the time. Still not sure I'd ever tip the DirecTv guy.

We snuck a tip to the massage ladies on our honeymoon and they looked terrified taking it. Most places will fire them on the spot if caught like UKMF mentioned...

I've been on several all inclusive trips...Mexico, Aruba and the Dominican Republic. I've never traveled to Jamaica. I always take $150 or so in singles. The employees at the resorts I've visited seem to have very little and are always very appreciative of a few bucks. Plus, a 5 spot at the pool bar in the morning and the lobby bar in the evening will get you a long way in terms of service.
January 17, 201412 yr Any one else travel to Hong Kong or any other place that has a 10% service charge? The service charge goes to the house and there is debate That the tip goes to the house as well. So how much should be tipped? Be going there for 10 years and no one can figure it out.

This past trip to the Dominican I had a really good beach waiter who I took down a good tip before we left the last day and he was so appreciative. I talked to him and he said most of the guys work 11 days in a row 14 hours then return home for 3 days. At that time they usually travel by bus 9-10 hours to there hometowns.
January 17, 201412 yr We went the Sandals Montego Bay route for our honeymoon and after a few tipping attempts got the message. Handshakes, high fives, genuine thank yous, smiles, and good conversation took the place of tipping. Best vacation ever and would highly recommend to anyone.
January 17, 201412 yr I think RIU has a new place in Montego Bay which I'm thinking of trying out. I believe it's an Adults Only which I've been wanting to try.
