I know most of you on BGP are Private School Supporters :fight: and feel the need to demonize :fire: someone from the public side, but what in the world does Mr. Sears have to do with this thread?

So Saint Xavier is saying none of their coaches have ever attended a game in Clark County Indiana. Clark County is saying two of their kids have had contact with a coach from Saint Xavier after games. If a coach from Saint Xavier wearing Saint Xavier clothing was at games, I'd say several people were witnesses. This should be easy to prove if it happened.

 

And when it is disproven and dismissed what recourse does St. X have? Can any action be taken against the Clark County school system for "malice" intentions? It appears neither Valentine, Bennett nor any Clark County representative called St. X to verify facts or request an investigation. The first St. X heard of this was in the morning C.J, per St. X website. As Clark County did not call St. X to try to verify the word of a kid, or call St.X to make an attempt to correct a misunderstanding (not a coach), or call St. X with the a demand to stay away, but acted recklessly with intentions of defamation of character, and/or other ill will towards St. X. Further, as the Courier Journal also made no attempt to verify the facts before printing, are they libel? I hope St. X has some sort of recourse against such behavior and is able to make them take responsibilty for their actions. St. X said they will take resposibilty for their actions if proven to be true and the Clark County System and C.J. should be made to take responsibility for their actions when it's proven not to be true.:mad:

No, I didn't see it. I watched WAVE 3 and the issue wasn't mentioned at all as it shouldn't have been.

Many states have that rule and Kentucky should add it as well. After all, these competitions are called "Kentucky" and supported by the same.

If it is disproven, Saint Xavier would have a terrific "we told you". Clark County would need a few years to get the egg off. The CJ would need to issue an apology.

Unfortunately, people find ways around the "no out-of-state students" being eligible for athletic competition. In Ohio, while many abide, some use a relative's address etc. to be technically eligible.

A possible solution to this whole mess and it would stop all of these nasty accusations of recruiting. No out of state players and no scholarships to anyone. You want your child to attend private school, pay for it, period. We do live in the commonwealth of Kentucky so why should Indiana kids play football in Kentucky? This of course is just my humble opinion.

Reflections on the article ...

 

C. Ray Hall is a respected reporter that has been writing about the public-private debate extensively for the last couple of years. He doesn't have a reputation for shoddy journalism.

 

I don't see that Trinity is owed an apology or retraction or anything. The article makes clear that St. Xavier is the subject of these allegations but that Robbie Valentine also wanted the letter sent to Trinity because some Clark County students have gone there in the past.

 

The Courier-Journal is reporting newsworthy on-the-record comments made by people in authority in a school system ... nothing wrong with that. If their allegations are proven false, I trust that will be reported as well.

 

One more thing ... is this the same Robbie Valentine that played basketball at North Hardin and Louisville?
