St. X, Trinity recruiting alleged: Southern Indiana schools complaining

Featured Replies

Just an FYI:

Ohio does allow exceptions to the "must be an Ohio resident" to participate in sports.

EXCEPTION 1—A student who has attended a minimum of 15 days in the eleventh grade when the parents move outside the state of Ohio may be declared eligible for the twelfth grade provided the student maintains continuous enrollment in the Ohio school.

EXCEPTION 2—A student who enrolls at first grade level in a school consisting of grades 1-12 and who maintains continuous enrollment shall be eligible for interscholastic athletics in grades 7-12 in that school regardless of place or state of residence of parents.

EXCEPTION 3 — A student who resides within the boundaries of a parochial school system consisting of grades 1-12 that has multiple sites organized into elementary schools (1-8) and secondary schools (9-12), and who has enrolled by fourth grade level of an elementary school in that system and has maintained continuous enrollment in that school system through grade 8, shall be eligible for interscholastic athletics in grades 9-12 providing

the secondary school attended by the student is the school designated by the school system for the continuance of the student’s educational program.

EXCEPTION 4 —A student who resides within the boundaries of a public school district in a neighboring state; and who attends an Ohio public school system under an arrangement through which the entire grade of the out-of-state student attends the Ohio public school system; and for whom the tuition or cost of education for said out-of-state student is paid

by the neighboring state’s school district of residence; and who will be eligible to receive ahigh school diploma from an Ohio public school system shall be eligible for interscholastic athletics in grades 7-12 at the schools designated by the Ohio school system for attendance by the students from the neighboring state.

EXCEPTION 5 —A student who is enrolled in a member school that provides housing for the student and accepts the role of the parent in loco parentis.

A possible solution to this whole mess and it would stop all of these nasty accusations of recruiting. No out of state players and no scholarships to anyone. You want your child to attend private school, pay for it, period. We do live in the commonwealth of Kentucky so why should Indiana kids play football in Kentucky? This of course is just my humble opinion.

Everyone in public school on scholarship.

Everyone in public school on scholarship.

My taxes would prove otherwise...

My taxes would prove otherwise...
Mine too Southgate's are outrageous for a one school district .

I have come to the conclusion from several of your comments that recruiting is going on everywhere all the time.

However no on has sent a written protest to the KHSAA. And if they had, the KHSAA would then immediately investigate and report their findings and take appropriate actions.

Which is it?

1. Recruiting is not happening at all.

2. Recruiting is happening but not on an institutional level (Only fans and boosters talking to kids).

3. Recruiting is happening on an institutional level (Coaches and employees/representatives of the schools)

Which is it?

1. Publics are recruiting.

2. Privates are recruiting.

3 Publics and privates are recruiting.

Which is it?

1. Rural schools are recruiting.

2. Urban schools are recruiting.

3. Rural and Urban schools are recruiting.

Which is it?

1. The KHSAA has received no written reports.

2. The KHSAA has received written reports but has failed to act.

3. The KHSAA has decided to be hands off.

4. The KHSAA has no real powers to investigate recruiting.

Yes:D

If you are wondering, go the the P and R forum and read away: you'll find out how I feel about immigration.

Think about the howitzer analogy. It will come to you.

Bottom line: what do you have to fear from kids from out of the state playing against Kentuckians?

Don't fear a thing, just do not think it should be allowed. But, using your thinking, Ohio must fear the world of Kentucky

Well after the shellacking Trinity gave Elder in 2002 are you surprised?

Willingly ignoring all of our other Ohio losses. :D

Just why do you think Ohio passed its rule? Its because the schools up north became upset that Moeller and X were getting some very good athletes to leave N. Ky to attend those schools. Frankly, their logic and fear was as silly as those in Ky that want to institute a similar rule.

One area that the rule is neither silly nor incorrect is the advantage for NKY who could draw from a large metro area like Cincy in comparison to a school like a Harlan.

Drawing from across the river gives NKY schools an advantage that other non border schools do not have.

Can you name more than 10 football players who, in your life time, lived in Ohio who have decided to play football at a Ky high school and who made an appreciable impact on Ky high school football or for that matter any other Ky high school sport? Few and far between up in these parts.

But lets not kid ourselves, this rule isn't about N. Ky or even E. Ky. Its about the Louisville schools (specifically X and T) that get kids from S. Indiana. This rule is just another attempt to hurt X and T, all wrapped up in the "we have to make sure Ky kids don't lose their spots on the roster to out of state kids" or the "I don't want my tax dollars used to subsidize out of state kids going to high school in Ky" malarkey. You know what: if either of those two theories are worth more than spit, then the legislature should pass a law that prohibits out of state kids from attending high school in Ky. But unless and until the legislature enacts such a law, if out of state kids are legally allowed to attend high school in Ky, then by God they should be able to participate in the athletic programs, take AP classes, participate in the band, be on the debate team, be in the German Club and participate in every other high school activity that the other students participate in. Either you are a student at the high school or you aren't. And if you are, then you should be able to participate in the full cornucopia of high school extra curricular activities.

What he said!!!:ylsuper:

The real issue is none likes to be dominated by anyone else. Football has become mundane in Ky and it has a lot to do with the same teams winning year after year. Why would an average kid with little or no chance of playing D-1 football go to all the hassle of playing in a season where the winner is decided in advance. More and more of them are playing soccer and other fall sports. The privates and large schools arfe a lot like wal-mart, they are putting the little and average schools out of business.

The whole recruiting issue is simply a way for the little guys to fight back. Why are Private schools so successful year in and year out? If anyone beleives they don't go after players to improve their teams you are living a pipe dream. Is this recruiting? In my opinion yes.

The end result will be eventually the rest of the publics will take their ball and go home. I can see in the not so distant future a time when publics no longer want to play privates because the feild is not even. This of course is just my humble opinion.

The little schools play in their own class. The average teams (public and private) will NEVER win a title.

Yep, the publics schools should close down their football programs.

Great stuff but we are off course. Feel free to start another thread on any of these topics.
