There haven't been very many second basemen who have put up the offensive numbers of Kent. Defensively there have been and almost endless number who were better. Since the voters seem to be offensive minded, Kent will probably make it sooner or later.

 

The Hall of Fame is like a lot of groups in that it has its heirarchy and its many lesser members. Kent will join Kell, Doerr, Rizzuto, Herman, Boudreau, and many others at the lowest rung of the group.

 

I would love to be a part of that lower hierarchy. Just so you know, anybody that stands up to Bonds and puts him in my place is in my Hall of Fame.

Don't forget he'll probably score some votes from the committee for his scuffle with Bonds a few years back too.

You figure by the time he finishes, he would have over 400 home runs and 1500 RBIs. So not a first ballot, but probably deserves to be in eventually.

I think it depends on who else is on the first ballot with him. If he is on the first ballot with Clemens, Glavine, Maddux, Griffey, etc, it will be tougher. If he is the headliner on the first ballot, he gets in on the first ballot.

Kent's been a fine player, but he just doesn't seem like a Hall of Fame-type guy to me.
