August 8, 200719 yr Kent doesn't even dent the list of all-time greats at the position. I am not sure about your "not making a dent" statement but I agree with you on this. I don't see him going in as a 2nd baseman. I don't think that he will make it in as a SS either.
August 8, 200719 yr For those saying he's in, is he better than Sandberg? I'd say not quite. He was/is a better hitter than Sandberg, but not as complete of a player.
August 8, 200719 yr Author I would say in. With the exception of SB's of course, most of his numbers are better than Joe Morgan's. . Brett Boone had 16 less homers than Morgan . That should tell you something when evaluating Kent.

The mistake too many people make when comparing fielding percentage is to assume all players are equally athletically gifted in terms of range, handle, arm strength and accuracy, and that they all played on the same field. Kent and Morgan aren't even on the same planet if you allow for the fact that not all defensive players are created equal. Morgan didn't have the arm strength to be a SS, or he would've been. Kent, on the other hand, probably got directed toward 2B because some organization long ago figured that would be the best place to hide his defensive inabilities.

August 9, 200719 yr If he plays a couple of more years he should end up with over 2500 hits, 1600 RBIs, and close to 400 Homeruns. The 1600 RBIs and MVP award he won will make it hard to keep him out of the Hall.
