I remember getting 1 clear channel on the TV and 2 others that would come in snowy when the weather conditions were just right, and having to walk the TV line up to the top of the hill to clear the line whenever a twig or leave fell on the TV line. I also remember mom fixing a home cook meals every night for supper with fresh veg. that we grew in our garden, and a special meal every Sunday after Church when the whole family got together.

 

Those were special times

Playing kick the can and ghost in the graveyard.

 

Picking blackberries in the hot sun and after supper......mom made home made blackberry cobbler.

 

Home made ice cream that you actually had to hand crank.

 

Staying outside until the street lights came on.

I remember my dad was kind of cheap and wouldn't get cable for several years, I think until I was around 18 (1988). He had a high-powered amplified roof antenna with a rotation motor. We could spin it to pick up Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati, Dayton, Bloomington, and on good days, Indianapolis and sometimes Bowling Green. It sucked not having ESPN and the like, but I could watch all kinds of great local games, and it was when M*A*S*H was at its heaviest syndication on local channels, so we could watch the greatest show in the world something like 3-4 hours a day.

Saw one of those frozen Ice cream trucks that go around in the neighborhoods. made me think of the Mr. Softee trucks. Any of those still around?

One drove through my son's baseball game this weekend at Maplewood Parks in Burlington.

We hit the cutoff man and nailed him at home plate for the 3rd out of the inning. Mr. Softee was a little upset about it, as he thought he was safe, and got into the umpire's face. Police had to be called and they led him away in handcuffs.:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I loved the Disney movies. Another favorite was Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. :bunny:

 

The best was when Marlon Perkins would pitch the insurance while his assistant, Jim, would be wrestling a wild animal in the picture behind him:

 

"While Jim subdues the Anaconda, let's hear from Mutual of Omaha and the wonderful insurance plans that they have to give you and your family peace of mind."

 

Meanwhile, Jim is up to his waist in the edge of the river with a huge snake coiling around him. After the commercial, Marlon would explain how "we" caught the snake. Even as a kid, I figured out that it was better to be Marlon than Jim.
