May 11, 200719 yr The procedure went like this TV picture begins to roll You tell your little brother to turn the vertical hold It doesn't work, and you throw a pillow at said brother You finally get up and mess with the vertical hold It almost works for a half a second then rolls the other way You turn it back, playing vertical hold ping pong for 5 minutes Finally you decide this isn't working and you whack the set, usually on the right side. Then again, then once on top. If that doesn't work, you try turning the TV off, and then on again repeatedly hoping one time it will come back on and quit rolling. Repeat the last step, only instead of turning it on and off, you change the channel back and forth from 3 to 4 about 50 times. You go back to the vertical hold button and repeat that procedure You finally either decide you can watch it like that, or you turn it off and go outside and play. You forgot you hit it a couple of time.

May 11, 200719 yr We got 3 TV channels and we had no VCRs, etc. You were at the mercy of the networks (there was no cable channels) and you watched what they wanted you to watch. You couldn't just pop in a movie. If you watched a movie, you went to the theater. If you missed a TV program, you missed it. We got 30 minutes of cartoons every afternoon (Mr Cartoon Show on WSAZ) and then a morning of cartoons on Saturday. That was it. The Charlie Brown Christmas, The Grinch, The Wizard of OZ, etc. were shows that came on once a year, and you made darn sure you were there and ready when they came on. If you missed it,... well we covered that already. The news came on twice a day and you made sure you watched it at 11 so you could get the sports and weather. There was no other way to find out who won the days MLB games, short of listening to the Reds on radio and waiting for the rundown, even then you missed all the west coast scores until the following day. The nightly news anchors were like movie stars. They were your window into the world, as there was really no other up-to-date information source. And even they were usually several hours behind in telling you of major events. You forgot Walt Disney on Sunday nights. I think Bonanza was on just before it.
