I remember when I was a kid the cartoons were actually in English and made points like if you don't make the football team it's alright and there's always next year, or how you should respect your parents. My favorite TV shows were on Nick at Nite though. I Love Lucy, Happy Days, CHIPS, oh yea!! And I loved watching old westerns with my great grandma.

 

Using the home phone to call my buddies and riding my bike to meet them somewhere before dinner, going home to eat, and immediately hopping back on my back and heading back to their house after I got done eating. I actually had my friends phone numbers memorized back then, now I have to look in my cell phone to call just about everyone.

 

I remember setting up lemonade stands down on the corner of the road to earn a couple bucks. Nowadays everyone is scared of letting their kids get anywhere close to the street for all kinds of reasons.

 

We always said the Pledge of Allegiance right after the first bell rang at school. You hardly ever see that anymore.

 

How about back when there was actually good music??

 

I miss when you could look up to professional atheletes as role models. Now just about all of em are just overpaid cry babies and cheaters.

 

When you would settle small personal problems with a fight instead of in the court room.

 

I miss $1.15 gas, $3 movies and when you could get a burger and a coke for $2.

I loved the Disney movies. Another favorite was Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. :bunny:

And yes, those round yellow things are adapters for your 45 records, I had PONG when it came out and played it quite a bit, along with my Atari 2600.

 

I remember getting my Atari, certain I was the last kid without one. My parents got it for me for Christmas. I found the hiding place and knew about it for weeks. Every chance I got I would go and just look at it...my precious...:lol:

 

I can remember riding my bike to the store to buy baseball cards just because, not because it had monetary value.

 

I also remember the hideous gum that came in them...:creepy:

1. How about making Jiffy POP popcorn on the stove because microwaves didn't exist? The big silver ball would grow and grow until it was ready to eat and it always tasted burnt.

 

2. How about trying to find a Reds score when they played on the coast? No ESPN, no 20-20 sports updates on the radio, no computer to log on. You'd have to hope your Dad stayed up or maybe you would call you old uncle and see if he did and knew the score.

 

3. How about trying to find the Indians game on the AM radio or the Cardinals on KMOX. Or maybe the Phillies game.

 

4. How about riding in the back of a station wagon with the seat facing the other way. And dangling your legs out of the window while facing the car behind you? Maybe giving them the peace sign?

 

5. What about turning the TV on about 15 minutes before a game so it could "warm-up" properly?

 

6. What about cameras needed a flash bulb or flash bar to work correctly?

 

7. How about running in from outside to watch The Monkees or the Brady Bunch or some band on Ed Sullivan because if you missed it there was no VCR or DVD and the only time to see it was maybe once during the summer?

Boy, there's one I had forgotten about! We had a console TV with wooden legs -- kind of like a kitchen table with a TV in it. Anyway, when you turned it off, you got those three (red, blue, and green) dots that stayed on the screen for several seconds.

 

Remember saving up cereal box tops and sending them in for something really cool? I still remember sending in tops from Quisp cereal and getting an awesome rock collection with all the little rocks glued into a cardboard box. Ahh...memories!

It's still warm up hear on the second floor of our dwelling this eveing. I am thinking of closing the windows. Perhaps I can get the upstairs to about 85 degrees. Then the fun starts... listening to the kids whine for the ac to be turned on. Not going to happen tonight!

 

No ac in the good ole days. Windows open in the evenings. Holes in the screens that be just big enough to let in all of the mosquitos in the neighborhood...
